I saw this last night/early this morning. I had to get the 3d version because all else was sold out. This 3d version was filmed in that 48 fps (I think 48). This very nearly ruined the movie for me. I am a die hard LOTR and Hobbit fan, but that frame rate was awful. It looked as if everything was on a sound stage or like I was watching a weird computer game a la Myst style. Everything looked like a prop and and some scenes made me nauseated. The story was good, but there were far too many added plot points. So many in fact that they could have wrapped up the whole movie series had they been left out. That frustrated me. Smaug was completely awesome, and Cumberbatch was perfect. At times the dwarves and Bilbo seemed to be a bit too "slap-schtick" for my tastes, and it took away from the epic story being told. I hope that the non 3d version of this looks very different from what I saw last night. I really do feel it had a negative impact on my experience, as it caused annoyance the whole time, and I may have not been bothered by so much otherwise. Looking forward to non 3d links to be posted here.
This is one of the most terrifying movies I've ever seen: Genius. I think this is the movie that put Reynolds on the A list. Regardless, this is one heart-pounding, breathtaking, nail-biting ride that will haunt you for hours after it's over. It's amazing how a movie that takes place inside of a box (for the entirety of the film) can be so gripping and real. If you like thrillers, you're going to have a blast with this one. Hands down -- 10/10.
@nickos114 ... Don't add up? From what I saw, the only flaws in the movie are technical (which can be a little distracting to the initiated, but, not enough to detract from the experience). As far as the story is concerned, it's an underdog survival thriller: pretty straight-forward. Get from point A to point B without dying.
Just awesome!! Not one thing I would change about this flick. Great acting by all... Kate Beckinsale and Hugh Jackman being superb per usual in any of their films. A movie you can watch and watch and not get bored. Definitely recommend!!! Cheers! :)
