Roger Kumble has been one of my favorite directors since Cruel Intentions.

This movie is a departure from his usual fare of edgy teen comedies, but is wildly funny and smart in its own right. As a dad, I think he's chosen to make a movie that his entire family can see, which is very cool. Raven and Martin have THE BEST chemistry, and anyone can relate to the difficult relationship that exists between dads and daughters. The scene at the end in the airport (not to give too much away) is heartwarming and quite poignant. I could relate to that moment between Martin and Raven when Martin realizes he's messed up big-time.

This is an awesome movie for the entire family. Go see it!!!

PS The scene in the Grandma's house is terrific!

You know you're in trouble as a film maker when you don't even allow a pig to keep it's dignity. As utterly bereft of merit as this miserable waste of time and money is, it still manages to insult the intelligence of CG oinklings everywhere and that is just one of it's myriad shortcomings. Wretchedly acted, poorly scripted, and as cringe worthy an experience as one could possibly expect to have at the movies--this film simply makes "Home Improvement" seem like a night at the Met. Every single character is a gross exaggeration without a single shred of likability or charm. Also, the "serious" moments play like the worst sitcom you've ever seen but at least with those you can escape every few minutes into a commercial. Not so here. One is forced to endure scene after scene of absolute twaddle so contrived you would swear Urkel is going to make an appearance at any moment.

The story as it goes involves the hopes and dreams of one Melanie Porter (Raven-Symon

NOTE: I'm still taking my break, but I thought before I officially return I'd just get these in since I've seen them recently

"I could say it's awful, but that's been said. Just imagine a film with two of the most wooden actors ever, Jessica Alba + Hayden Christensen, through an interesting plot gone wrong and some laughably horrendous acting from Terance Howard and um..you got Awake"

College Road Trip is full of comic twists and turns as Melanie Porter (Raven-Symone) and her father James (Martin Lwarence) embark on a college road trip where they learn that the most important thing is trusting each other, but there were some dull moments and Raven-Symone, Brenda Song, and Donny Osmond notably outshine the rest of the cast.

The movie was good for kids. But for the teens we thought it'll be real funny and it wasn't only some parts.

I hate this movie. I would be nice to give this movie a c-. Don't waste your money on this movie.

This was an excellent movie. We took our teenagers (in high school) and we all laughed throughout the whole movie. There were kids of all ages laughing. It was clean, no language, & I can't wait to watch again on Blue-Ray. This is a great movie for all ages; including parents!

College Road Trip

Initial Reaction: A movie about Fraternities?

Main Characters

Melanie Porter: She's a teen girl applying for a college. She's played by Raven-Symone

James Porter: He's Melanie's father and a police chief played by Martin Lawrence.

Trey Porter: He's Melanie's brother played by Eshaya Draper.

Plot Summary

It comes for several teens: the college application. But James wants his daughter to apply to one school only: Northwestern.

Why? Because that campus is less that a half hour's drive from the Porter household, and James wants to keep his daughter safe. (In other words, he wants to keep an eye on her 24/7.

But Melanie has other ideas. She wants to get into Georgetown, or at least take a look at other schools other than Northwestern.

So James takes Melanie off onto a trip from their house to several campuses finally getting into Washington, and the Georgetown campus.

But the trip gets many bumps: the car breaks down, Trey and his pig tag along with a trouble-making pig, and Melanie wonders if her father is treating her like a kid.

SCORING

Main Characters

Not for one second do I believe James Porter is a police chief -- not because of his race, but because of his actions. In one scene he takes a criminal into custody with his hands cuffed in front of him (they should be behind his back.)

Then, he forgets his badge at the worst times, he can't tell a sky diver from a platform or springboard diver.

And finally, he trashes his car while trying to change a flat tire. How do you do that?

As for Melanie, I don't know if she's a smart girl who acts dumb sometimes or just a stupid girl pretending to be smart. That really annoyed me.

As for Troy, I wonder what he's doing in the film. He doesn't push a plot forward or make any developments in James or Melanie. SCORE: 3

Supporting Cast

I don't know who's more annoying: Melaine's ditzy girlfriends or the lame singing father/daughter duo who give Melaine, James and Troy a ride after the Porter's car gets trashed. Good thing I don't have to pick.

To make matters worse, these guys and gals show up again and again, like a bad nightmare. SCORE: 1

Plot

This isn't a story; it's a bunch of scenes that the writers slap together in a vain attempt to get laughs out of the audience, and it doesn't work. SCORE: 3

Originality

This film brings back memories of RV and Are We There Yet? The comedy reeks of other slap stick films like Cheaper by the Dozen 2 and Yours, Mine and Ours. SCORE: 3

Violence Factor

People get zapped by a stun gun, a car gets demolished and the Porters ruin a wedding. There's no real consequence to any of those events. SCORE: 3

Other Moral Issues

This film is supposed to be about a father learning to let his child go, but the bad comedy and plotlines ruin that message. SCORE: 4

Final Score(out of 60): 17 % Score: 28.33%

There are only a few things wrong with this film: bad cast, bad plot and bad comedy. That's all.

Laughless comedy occasionally sprinkled with the adorable antics of that little pig. I hope to see that pig in future movies.
