another gem by david fincher. robert downey jr. plays a great role as an investigative reporter. the whole team did the story of the zodiac killer justice by drawing the audience into the confusion of the real case. also a great job by mark ruffalo.

David Fincher is the king of thrillers and making the audience immerse themselves in a film, and this is no differant. With integuing charachters and a very strong plot the 2 1/2 hours fly by.

An amazingly detailed thriller, which follows the investigation into the Zodiac killer. David Fincher's film is hypnotic, and powerful, with a very real unconventional thriller ending.

Great movie.
The movie is about the (real) Zodiac killer. FOr me this is the best "based on a true story" movie. The murders werent really shown much, this movie is mostly talking and ivestigating about the Zodiac mostly these kind of movie bores me but it didnt. Great film.

Director David Fincher does something remarkable with 'Zodiac'. While your watching it's characters become more and more obsessed and outraged by the press seaking serial killer 'Zodiac' you, yourself become obsessed and outraged as well. A true achievement.

I'm not going to ring the praises of this one, I just couldn't get into it. It was possibly because it was 5 am, or either that the film has an extremely laggard pace. Either way, this is a very tantalizing thriller.
The movie has two defined that play out almost like separate films. The first one being the 60s-70s that builds up information about who Zodiac is. The second is the late 70's-early 90s that almost resolves the case (the actual Zodiac case never had a conclusion, so it's nice to see that this film doesn't try to slap one on).
My only complaint with this setup is that the second half is so much faster and more like a crime drama that I almost think the film should have been cut in half. It's not like the second part of the movie doesn't rehash what happened before, so the viewer would not have missed anything.
The acting is pretty good. Jake Gyllenhaal is very sympathetic with his character. The guy seems secluded and extremely intelligent (which he must be if he wrote a book about the Zodiac) and that is captured wonderfully. Robert Downey Jr. is pretty much RDJ. Everything he does is not unlike things I've seen before. He does have an attitude that gets the later part of his character's story down well, though. There are a lot of other faces in the film too, but I have no idea who most of the actors are. What I can say is, the pedestrians are played a little blah and the cops are great.
The soundtrack is pretty much a fail. While I know that this movie is trying to go for setting, there is almost zero actual score in the film. There is one great scene where Gyllenhaal's character is trying to exit a house quickly that shows off some musical talent, but everything else is just period music. I enjoy "Horse With No Name," (and that may actual be symbolic when you think about it), but does it really need to be in this movie?
What is captured 100% correct is the cinematography and direction. The camera angles used to captured San Francisco are simply stunning. There are numerous shots where the sky is moving faster than the action or clouds are shrouding the Golden Gate bridge that literally took my breath away. The amount of tension throughout the film (and especially in the killing scenes) is at almost fever pitch levels.
So, to conclude this, Zodiac is a good, but flawed, film. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I were more awake, but I'm not entirely sure of that. This is definitely a film that requires another viewing, so I may have to give it another shot in the future.

Zodiac quickly takes you to an uneasy place, and keeps you there for a long time. At over 2 1/2 hours this movie is no quick in and out adventure, and for much of that time you aren't scared as much as you are concerned. Zodiac tells the story of a real life serial killer who is motivated primarily by his desire to kill, and the attention that comes with it. It is the concern that any audience member could have fallen victim to this type sense of senseless violence that keeps you engaged when you might have otherwise gotten bored (which my wife did). The killer was real so you plow through the sometimes slow buffet of a plot simply to satiate you hope that police finally shackled this nut case before you accidentally rent him your spare bedroom.

What an amazing movie! Zodiac is a gripping movie that keeps your interest from beginning to end, despite its long run-time and slow pace. When this movie ended, I found myself not wanting it to stop because I was so enthralled with what was happening.

This movie was chilling, terrifying, extremely interesting, and even though you wouldn't expect it, at times, funny. This was one of the best movies I have seen, to put it simply.

This movie did a great job doing everything that it did. The violence was very intense, yet quite tastefully done. Every time a kill was about to start, my heart would start pumping very hard. The majority of the movie is story driven, but kept me excited and entirely interested. It was also a very funny movie; I enjoyed the laughs. And, again, the suspense was done very well; I had to sleep with my closet light on after watching this movie.

This tells the story of the famous Zodiac killer in the 70's. I thought this movie was going to be boring due to the fact that I already saw the Bill Kurtis - "American Justice" story on this.
It was much more interesting than I thought & if you have an extra 2 hours and 45 minutes, its worth the watch. Its a little too long but it was an interesting take on the toll this case actually took on the police department, & the obsession of some of the officers that refused to let this case fade into the cold case files.
good film
