Clive Owen has played bad asses, heros and tough guys in the past but in this movie he plays a wimp that can't do anyhting right and just makes stupid mistakes. The movie was way too predictable and the idea of it could have been done much better in order to make the movie more shocking and suspenseful.

Mediocre movies abound.

I'll Sleep When I'm Dead stars Clive Owen ("Inside Man") as a guy who fled a life of crime to live alone in the woods. When his brother dies under mysterious circumstances, he must return to the world he left behind to investigate, and, perhaps, seek vengeance. While this movie does give the audience something to mull over, specifically rape and its effect on its victims, the film is just too slow. About mid-way through, I knew where we were headed, and I wished we would just hurry up and get there. The jazz score is good and the acting solid, but Charlotte Rampling ("Basic Instinct 2") and Malcom McDowell ("Cut Off") just aren't given enough screen time. Owen also does voice over.

Owen also stars in Derailed. Another thriller that features him doing voiceover. The man does have a sexy voice, but do they always have to have the voiceover? In this film, Owen cheats on his wife with Jennifer Aniston ("The Break Up"), but they are caught by a mean, mean man who blackmails them and threatens Owen's family. This film wanted to be dark and edgy, perhaps too much so. The characters were a nice change for both Owen, who is not really a take-charge guy like he usually plays, and Aniston, who isn't the giggly goody-two shoes she usually portrays. Overall, I enjoyed this.

In Rumor Has It, Aniston also stars as the real-life granddaughter of Mrs. Robinson from The Graduate. I thought this was an excellent concept for a movie, and I'm sure it looked really good on paper. But it turned out to just be kinda fun and kinda sad, but not really delivering on the laughs from the preview. Shirley MacLaine ("In Her Shoes"), as Mrs. Robinson, is fabulous as always, but everyone else seemed sort of lackluster. Even Mark Ruffalo ("Just Like Heaven") who I usually love.

Ruffalo turns in a better, though less likable, performance in We Don't Live Here Anymore. This is another film with excellent acting and great cinematography, that turns out to be just kinda blah. In this film, everybody cheats on their spouses and whines alot. That's pretty much it. I didn't like any of the characters. And most of them I wanted to smack. I've seen better movies about cheating ("Closer") and better movies about marital fighting ("Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf").

The last three films all involved cheating. And my finacee wanted to know why I rented a bunch of films on this subject. I told him that there just seems to be alot of cheating in movies. Does anyone else see this theme?

This is one of those movies with stupid characters who have no brains in theirs stupid heads whatsoever. I thought Clive Owen's character might have walked of the set of Friday the 13th part 89 and gotten lost here. His actions serve only to propel this mediocre and dumb film forever onward to yet another either silly or dull point. The villian is a cartoon character and Jennifer Aniston has very few acting chops outside of her happy little bubble(with the exception of The Good Girl).
Don't watch this movie, eat insects, clean the house or better yet watch anything but this.

No, really, I'm not on a Jennifer Aniston kick. I had heard things about this movie and I wanted to see it for myself. I must say I was totally surprised with the plot twist. I never saw it coming and I thought it was very cool. Not ruining any of that for anyone else, the plot involves a married man, Charles, and a married woman, Lucinda. They meet on a train and start spending time together. When they decide to take their relationship to the next level (adultery) they are interrupted by a man who robs them, rapes Lucinda repeatedly and then wreaks havoc with Charles' life for a while. That's really all I can without giving anything away. I enjoyed the movie which is surprising since I'm not usually a suspense fan.

The dialogue is a bit forced. The plot twists that were relevant to the script are easy to figure out. Although I have watched alot of worse movies, I am probably being generous with a 5.

Last review is for the drama North Country, I wasn't sure I was going to like this film at all and decided to watch it since my housemate wanted to see it, I am a fan of the directors first effort Whale Rider, it was a saddening drama with some brilliant acting and her second feature is much better in my eyes, and the drama is knocked upto new heights this woman powered film, a great second effort that should be seen.

North Country is about Josey Aimes a woman who leaves her husband after he beats her and she moves in with her parents, she decides to get a job up at the mines with her father but once she starts working there she notices that the woman who work there are treated like shit from the men at this mine, so Josey decides to take matters into her own hands and this is the story of a woman who stood against a giant company and won.

The acting in this film is brilliant, Charlize Theron is a great actress and it was good to see after Aeon Flux there was some good to come out of this beautiful woman, her performance in this film is fucking fantastic, I would even say she deserved an Oscar, Frances McDormand is also fantastic in her role and would even say she herself deserves an Oscar, Sean Bean is great in this role and I loved his role as FM's husband and I believed in this film that he truely loved her, they had such great chemistry together, Woody Harrelson was also great, whoever says he is a has been should see this movie cause he does a decent job and proves he still has talent.

Now the supporting cast is also excellent, Sissy Spacek is in a small role but it still is rewarding, Richard Jenkins as Charlize's father is also good, I hated his character in the beginning but ended up loving his character in the end,
Jeremy Renner is nasty as one of the men who treat these woman like shit,
Michelle Monaghan is beautiful and gets some of the most horrible scenes in this movie and still comes out shining and lastly Rusty Schwimmer is an actress alot of people don't know but I'm here to say that she is fantastic and people should start taking note that this woman can act, watch her in this movie, Mozart And The Whale and even her great turn as a biker wife in Six Feet Under.

This movie was truely heartbreaking, I know I'm a guy and I shouldn't fall victim to a movie that tugs on the heart strings and plays all the emtional cues of a midday movie, but this movie seriously had me shocked and even saddened at how these woman were treated, they were abused they copped stuff, like being pushed over in a port-a-loo and covered in shit, being called cunts and much more, pushes around, sexually assaulted and much more so when she won in the end it was totally feel good to see that she had brought down such a male driven network that treated woman like they were nothing.

Lastly North Country was a truely stand out film, I was hooked on this film from the very beginning, the woman of this film came off as powerful too me and men came of as total scum, the film has some truely stand out performances and is a truely gripping drama, I'd highly recommend this too anyone who wants to see these actors at the top of there games.

A Scanner Darkly was a very hard to follow movie. The visual style is unique(esp. if you haven't seen the phenomenal Waking Life) but the movie still stands on its own with or without it. 8/10

Mostly it has to do with the negative consequences of drugs and those who distribute it. Go figure Keanu Reeves plays a brain dead character.
A warning to those who are deciding whether to see it or not, it is nearly entirely dialogue driven.

Derailed stars Clive Owen and Jennifer Aniston(whos hot in this role). Basically they both have an affair with each other and someone walks in while they're having sex and steals all their money. Then goes on to black mail them to reveal the affair. Great movie, great twists, see it. 7/10

Half Light stars Demi Moore and for most of the movie, seems like the typical creepy child ghost movie. It has a few twists and upgrades itself to decent. 6/10
