Some movies, you really should shoot holes in. You know, weak acting by supporting actors, odd accents, plot abnormalities, etc.
But then there is Die Hard, one of those rare movies, where instead of shooting the holes, you just lean back and shout with John McClain: "You mf, I'm gonna kill you! I'm gonna fn' cook you, and I'm gonna fn' eat you!" And it just feels good! I love this flick. Non-stop action, comedy, and one bald and dang sexy Bruce Willis! I've seen it countless times, but it doesn't stop me from whispering in my mind, "Yippee-ki-yay I'm about to watch Die Hard!"

Die hard, what can i say... a classic action movie with great acting from the big man- Bruce Willis. There is talk about a potential DIE HARD 4

Sean Penn is brilliant, and in Mystic River he is um... BEYOND BRILLIANT

Bruce Willis' breakout role was also a breakout for the action movie genre. The mixture of humor with wonderfully choreographed ultra-violent action scenes has yet to be matched. While the plot is airtight and the villians, led by Alan Rickman, are perfectly portrayed, the real reason this film will never be forgotten is the life-affirming performance given by Bruce Willis. I have no doubt that by the time he is an old man and starts to take more serious roles, people will finally realize he is one of the finest actors to ever grace the screen with his presence. John McClaine is one of the most original characters ever created and is so likeable he could probably shoot his own wife, crack a joke, and make the audience completey forget about his crime. There is no flaw in this movie, not a single scene or even a second I would want removed. Thank you John McTiernan, Bruce Willis, Alan Rickman, and Bonnie Bedelia.

I saw the movie Die Hard for the first time the other day. I highly suggest it. John McClane is not a superhero- he's just a NYPD. There's loads of blood, shooting, language, and smoking. Oh yeah.See it.

for me, Die Hard is the ultimate action film. it was surely not the first modern action film, but you can just feel how every film since was shaped by it. it certainly set the standard for the modern blockbuster action film, and it's still the top dog if you ask me. it has been one of my favorite films for as long as i can remember, even when i was younger and wasn't a full-blooded movie geek like i am now.. and even as my taste in film has progressed and has become more refined, it remains a favorite and i suspect it'll always be.

the story is simple.. a highrise in Los Angeles is taken over by terrorists as they celebrate christmas, and one man on a visit to his estranged wife ends up having to fight back from the inside.. and that man is John McClane, who also happens to be a New York police officer. mayhem ensues. that the story as relatively simple as it is probably is a strength since it doesn't overly complicate things, and just keep it a lean, mean action movie machine. it's not balls to the walls action either, there's plenty of humor ("now i know what a tv-dinner feels like") and some drama too.. but it is of course primarily an action film, and what an action film it is! made in the time before CGI, the action is just fantastic and there are so many classic scenes. it is just a little over 15 years old by now, yet it still holds up wonderfully AND it's not affected much at all by having made in the 80's either, unlike many (if not most) films from that decade. the cinematography (wonderfully shot by Jan de Bont), editing, art direction, visual effects, etc. are all absolutely top notch for a film of this caliber. it got four Oscar nominations for it's technical achievements and very deservedly so.

as for the acting, Bruce Willis as John McClane has always been a favorite action hero of mine.. he was always the more realistic anti-hero action hero to the ones Schwarzenegger and Stallone played and i always preferred Willis. he was the everyday man hero, and McClane is obviously his trademark role that he pulls off wonderfully.. comically, dramatically and physically. most people most likely think of Alan Rickman's Hans Gruber when they think of Die Hard and the acting though.. it is unlikely that the film had been as good had he not been in it and created this classic villain. he's not the most original villain ever, but Rickman plays him perfectly and memorably. the rest of the cast all do fine work too (well, for an action film) but it's really all about Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman in my book, as i would imagine it is for just about everyone else too.

the Die Hard trilogy is definitely one of my favorite trilogies.. i'd probably only rank the Indiana Jones trilogy higher than the Die Hard one in fact. the sequels are obviously not as good or as classic as the first film, but i think they are both top notch action films (yes, Die Hard 2: Die Harder too!). as for Die Hard, it remains the film to be beat, and in all honesty, i don't see any action film beating it anytime soon, especially since the glory days of action films seem to be long gone by now.

***** stars out of five.

I've just been watching Die Hard and oh my God...boooring! Actually, it seems alright, it's just I am in no mood for stupid terrorist action movies with far too much swearing. Also the fact my Dad made me translate every single piece of German kinda bummed it out.

Which is a shame as I've had a really good day!! Met my friend, Claire, as usual after work on a Saturday afternoon. We eat the free chips she gets off her boss and then we go down to the Antiques Centre to go and see MovieMan (aka Mike Th...something or other) the guy who sells all the movie posters. But - shock horror - his shop has other teenage girls flirting with him, trying to get discount pieces. (Shameless - I beg to differ, you shall see why later..)

So we decide - second shock horror - to actually go into the antiques shop of the Antiques Centre. The thought had never occured to us before that there was indeed an actual antiques shop in the Antiques Centre. The pictures of Johnny outside Mikes little shop are obviously too distracting...

And oh my word, that shop is wonderful! It's HUGE and has soo many wonderful things in it. Old chairs and tables, cases upon cases of vintage jewellery (heaven) and shelves and shelves of TEACUPS! I adore retro/art deco teacups and they had such a selection it was unbelievable.

But the jewellery was mind blowing. They had 6 different sections dedicated to yet more antique sapphires and diamonds. The day I went into Alcester Antique Shop was the day I promised myself I shall have an antique engagement ring. Then it's not just your story, it's someone elses and should passed through different owners - watching different peoples lives be turned upside down, through bad or good. So to see soooo many delicately put together bands of gold and platinum was just mesmerising. I'm definatly going to be sifting through some of that to see what (cheap) treasures I can find.

And then I made two awesome discoverys.

1) An 1700s/1800s old bar/saloon mirror with an advert that displayed a wonderful sailing ship with the words "Captain Freders Finest Carribean Rum" blazed across the top and bottom in big black lettering. Highly amusing, highly desirable!

2) Four 1950s/60s telephones!!! I adore these old telephones as much as my teacups and the only thing that stopped me buying all four were the price tags.

Die Hard:
Now this is one of my favorite action films of all time. The acting is good and contains many memorable scenes. Bruce Willis definately did a good job and Alan Rickman made an esceptional Bad Guy.

Die Hard 2: Die Harder
OK this is my least favorite movie of all 3. this movie did have some good acting but there was also some bad acting. In this movie I really like Bruce Willis but the bad guys I found to be less interesting and the "twist" in this movie is stupid and unnecessary seeing as it only adds another guy for Bruce Willis to kill.

Die Hard With a Vengance
I think this movie was slightly better than the second but nothing worth really bragging about. I think the racial tension, jokes, and partnership of Samuel L. Jackson and Bruce Willis was the best part of this movie. I also loved the connection between this one and the original one, it makes this movie that much more interesting. All in all I believe this is the movie the sequel should have been and the sequel should just be forgotten about.
