I really liked this movie! I really don't like movies based off of superheros or comics because they really don't turn out well. But I really liked this one...

I'm a big fan of the comic book series (and Euripides' plays, although the plays have little if anything to do with the comic book series)... So I'm really looking forward to the movie. I know it's probably going to be cheesy and mediocre just like Daredevil was but I DON'T CARE!!

I also love the tagline: Looks *can* kill.

When I obtained passes to see ELEKTRA I immediately called my friend and said, "Hey, I have passes to see a comedy, wanna go?"

"What movie is it?" he asked.

"Elektra."

By the middle of the second act, the movie didn't disappoint my hopes to crack a chuckle.

I was a little surprised by Rob Bowman's pacing during the first act. The film looked like, well, a film, not a comic book adaptation. The rich picturesque setting of the untamed Pacific Northwest was a welcome surprise. Bowman was trying. The scriptwriter was trying. I whispered to my friend, "Wow, so far this is better than DAREDEVIL, even though that isn't saying much."

ELEKTRA is unfortunately simple and its execution after the first act is wretched. Garner's buff bod, and the popularity of Alias, will no doubt cause the film to at least break even.

Marvel Enterprises really needs to get a better handle on its properties. So far X-MEN and SPIDER-MAN are the only franchises worth talking about. The first BLADE was enjoyable, but its sequels were, well, yeah.

*UPDATE* 1/16/05
ELEKTRA becomes the first bomb of the year earning only $12.5M. CATWOMAN did better than this on its opening weekend. Now that the damage is done (granted ELEKTRA will pick up some $$$ on DVD and international tix sales), I hope this proves a lesson for Marvel Ent. and prodcos believing that a superhero film + star talent = instant $$$.

It doesn't. From what I hear a great script, top-notch directing with a vision, and good acting tend to be what the doctor ordered. But, hell, what do I know?

GHOST RIDER looks like a disaster in the making and I'm not convinced THE FANTASTIC FOUR will be everything we hope.

Not long after recovering from seemingly mortal wounds, Elektra ( Jennifer Garner) has severed all ties with the world, living only for her next assignment. But in an unexpected turn of events, she is forced to make a decision that can take her life in a new direction -- or destroy her.

Elektra made her alluring manifestation in the 2003 picture "Daredevil". Garner is one of the enhanced actresses of her age-group, but good looks and talent just aren't enough - she lacks the movie star grace needed to give life to Elektra. There's not enough fighting muscle to really sink your teeth into, but it's better than I thought it was going to be. E.R.'s Goran Visnjic (Mark) makes the best of his role giving it magnetism and sex appeal. "Elektra" is set for a sequel. I can't wait to see if Goran will still have that magnetism.

Elektra maybe a little hyped, but it is a passable ride.

Let's face it, critics will never like comic-book movies. They don't get them. Comic books are open-ended, action-oriented, and rarely have depth. Does that make them bad? No, that formula has produced endless royalties and loyal fans. Elektra is a comic-book movie. Critics hate it. The movie sat at 0% on rottentomatoes for most of the day (as I write it's up to 6%). I liked it. I'm not saying this is an oscar contender, just that it's a fun movie. Some movies are meant to stir emotion, others are meant to invoke deep thoughts, yet others are just there to entertain. Jennifer Garner's performance was good, the plot moved along well, and the action was enjoyable. It's fair to say that this movie was on par with the X-men movies, if that helps you decide whether to see it. I stand firm to all of the critics and say that I recommend this movie to anyone looking for a fun, action-oriented movie. Perhaps if the critics didn't have sticks up their rears they would have enjoyed sitting through this movie more.

I have seen commercials for Elektra, and I'm not going to waste my time even going to see it in the Cinema, because it looks like utter smelly-poop. It looks like a failure, just like Daredevil was in my books. Shit. I won't waste my time...

Approximently 18 months ago, I told a friend that the end of the universe would happen with the release of Boa Vs Python. I was wrong. The movie Elektra, was in fact the end of the universe. I knew there were going to be problems when the film, succumbing to its own potentcy, ripped, thus having to be spliced back together. The only reason it has two stars is because I entertained myself making fun of this movie, however, I had to be conservative in order to not give hopeful Garner fans the satisfaction. The bad guys are a bunch of Japanese business men. The super bad guys have the worse names ever given, ever. Tattoo? Where's a plane locating midget when you need one. All of the action can be found in the trailer. The only thing worth while was the :SPOILER: The lesbian kiss of death :SPOILER: which was as unneeded as an all you can eat buffet at a fashion show. Oh, and be sure to tell everyone about the now legendary :SPOILER: sheet fight :SPOILER: which blew my mind with the cgi bed sheets. At least the Fantastic Four is coming out this July!

:rotten: Elektra was a very dissapointing movie. I expected better from Marvel. The beggining was bad but the end was better than I expected. Garner was a horrible actress. Do not see this movie...unless if there's nothing else left
