Fun movie with surprisingly good acting. Recommended if you're just looking to laugh. It's sort of a parody of shows like Star Trek, but amusing even if you're not a true fan of Star Trek, like me (sorry to the Trekkies in Solar-movie land) :).

I used to own this DVD and one of the special features was the ability to watch the whole movie in the language of the aliens (can't quite remember what that was) which is hilarious, especially when the normally alien spoken lines come up and they were in english (confused yet?). Any way it's a silly funny movie that works. Or it could be that I was real high back in those days. Everything was funny. I'm out.

well hello! we're nerds!

galaxy quest...hmmm...how do you describe this movie...it starts out being a mockery of all things trekkie and ends up a pretty good sci-fi romp through space. not being a trekkie at all, i didn't know what i was getting myself into, and as it turns out, this flick is damn funny. not as much replay value as say, spaceballs, but a good funny adventure nonetheless. a great cast thrown together as an unlikely bunch of actors who actually turn out to be a great team by the end of the flick...and everyone is top of there game here. tim allen has never been funnier, sigourney weaver has never been such a sex object (and it works amazingly well), and so on and so forth. had to knock it a point for the slow start, and another for the lack of replay value...other than that, i'm watching the bargain bins to add this to my massive pile of dvd's....

I must admit that I was once a "Trekkie", a devoted fan of Star Trek: The Next Generation. While I still appreciate the show's mixture of escapism and social commentary, I marvel that I could have ever been so obsessed with it as to have every stardate memorized. Galaxy Quest is a very funny comedy about actors who were in a show very much like Star Trek, and are now relegated to appearing at conventions and reciting the same stupid lines for their rabid fans. The brilliant twist of the story is that real-life aliens have intercepted old broadcasts of the show and mistaken them for truthful depictions, and so when they come to Earth looking for help, the first group they contact is the cast of the TV show. Galaxy Quest is light, effortless fun...and surprisingly, it is also a somewhat engaging adventure story. The film draws its humour from two sources: first, from the actors, who are now ashamed of themselves for appearing in repetitive dreck; and secondly, the film successfully lampoons the conventions of shows like Star Trek while integrating those conventions into the action. Tim Allen, in the funniest performance of his career (aside from his voice-over work in the two Toy Story films), plays an egotistical, alcoholic actor not unlike William Shatner...a man who is so hungover when he finds himself on a real space ship he mistakes it for one of the sets of the old show. And Alan Rickman, as an esteemed British actor who was reduced to portraying an alien doctor, is marvelously droll and delightfully contemptuous of his fans. There are times when Galaxy Quest is not entirely successful, most of them involving the real-life battle with a group of enemy aliens. The humour in those scenes is little more than slapstick, although the effects used to bring the aliens to life are impressive. The true genius of Galaxy Quest lies in the quieter, more subtle moments of humour...perhaps only a fan of Star Trek will be able to appreciate all of the cliches of that show that are lovingly mocked in this movie. Galaxy Quest walks a fine balancing act and emerges intact: it balances slapstick, adventure and broad satire...and ends up being unexpectedly enjoyable.

A great way to pass time for sci-fi fans who don't take themselves too seriously. For those that do take themselves too seriously, maybe this can open your eyes.

It's nice to be able to make fun of your favorite sci-fi series/movies. This movie does a good job of spoofing the genre I love.

Very funny movie, enjoyed every minute of it. I liked Alan Rickman the best in this movie cause he was the best actor in the movie. Anither thing is that the plot was well set up and the jokes were good. Overall, Galaxy Quest is a fun time filled with good jokes and acting. This movie gets a 9/10.
