Ok, I have to admit this damn movie has sat on my tivo for about two weeks. I have avoided it by watching, I guess, about 10 episodes of law and order. I finally broke down and watched it a few nights ago and was surprised by some pretty decent CGI in the title sequence. While anything close to the great gore in the opening was never recaptured the majoirty of film does a fair job in building the tension from scene to scene. Good tight shots...pretty creepy at some points...I was pretty stunned. BUT...then came the last twenty minutes. I had prayed that it wasn't as transparent as I was thinking...naturally it was. The film's finale is the most uter worthless piece of scriptwriting ever. I actually laughed out loud. A film that had actually built credibilty throughout the first two acts (despite my prejudice before hand) destroyed it in a matter of 20 mins. With a few tweeks I think this might actually have been a pretty decent horror film. Course, horror film standards aren't high now are they?

4 'cause the last 20 mins pissed me off THAT much...

Nice. For my first film in the new journal, I see Ghost Ship. Thankfully, it was free on HBO. This movie climbs Turd Mountain, and then defecates on it. It is supposed to be a horror film, but it doesn't frighten you at any point. One thing it's great at is cliches. Here are a few:

* The horror film that uses a little girl. Ever since The Shining, horror film directors have been convinced that little mute girls in dresses with blank looks are creepy.

* The 'let's kill everybody in an interesting way'. Some blow up, some drown, etc. The black guy, of course, never stood a chance.

* The false conflict. Having a bunch of characters work together to try and get themselves out of a situation is just too far fetched for the bad horror film. So the Director, Steve Beck (Thir13en Ghosts (2001)), and the screenwriter, Mark Hanlon, create stilted disagreements so that the characters can yell at each other and waste film time. Also, it gives them an excuse to walk away in a huff and wander alone around the ship.

The worst part of the movie is a sequence in which it is revealed to the main protaganist why the ship is haunted. Instead of allowing the details to come to us in a natural way, it is dumped into our lap in a two minute montage with techno music in the background. It appears incredibly out of place, since the scenes taking place occured in the early twentieth century.

A better movie would have been about how the event that made it a ghost ship in the first place. I find it hard to believe that horror geeks would even like this film.

I recorded it off the satelite and expected it to be crap that I couldn't watch more than ten minutes of, but it wasn't that bad considering the genre. But I am a sucker for movies about salvaging things that are mysterious.

This movie was filled with twists and turns, and i thought it was rather good, i was surprised that Gabriel Byrne was killed in it though. Desmond Harrington gave a great performance!! I was a bit confused in the end however, who was jack, how did they get the gold if it sunk, and what was his quota? All in all it was a great movie, but a bit more ghost action would have been great.

Yes, went to school and was bored out of my mind. Who isn't?. Having to sit in classes all day, doing homework and whatnot...can give someone a disease...literally. Anyways, yeah, I've nothing else to say yet again. Until next time...see you on the dark side of the moon

Over the past two days my friends and I rented a bunch of horror movies so here are some ratings.

1) The remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre: I had low expectations of this movie considering it was a remake and a slasher horror movie but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The effects are kinda cool. I only give it a 5 though, it's just one of those movies you rent on a night when you're bored.
2) Gothika: I thought this was a great movie! If you want to be scared it's a great pick! It doesn't use gallons of blood & guts to scare you nor explicit language the whole way through the movie. Just a good "jump outta your seat every 5 seconds" movie.
3) Ghost Ship: Not the best movie in the world but the first five minutes are enough to keep you hooked! That's all I'll say on that one
4) House of 1000 Corpses: This received the award for the worst movie I've ever seen in my entire life! The plot, if there even was one, was awful, and it wasn't scary, just disgusting! It was like a sadistic comedy or something. Don't waste your money

Wow, this is one of those downhill movies, where everything really does go downhill from the start. Awesome opening, which is almost worth the price of admition alone, however, the film falls into a cliche filled quagmire, and never regains its momentum. Watch the begining on cable, then change the channel.

well, there's not too much to say about this movie. i finally watched it after it being out for quite a while now. it wasn't really bad, but it wasn't really good either. it's an alright horror flick, not a complete waste of time. i did really like the opening scene on the boat with everyone getting sliced in peices. but nothing else really stood out all that much.
