Better than average coming of age type of movie about a teen who checks into a mental health ward. Lots of interesting characters. Some funny, some sad, some romance. Thanks to nanu for the recommendation and to all the linkers for their help.

Not kind of a funny story. It should instead be titled "Kind of a depressing story." Its all about a boy who really doesn't have any problems but thinks that he does. And a man who really does have problems. Depressing.
