Cleverly subversive and self-aware, Josie occasionally slips into too sugary territory, but the spirit is always right, and Alan Cumming shows his comic range (is he great or what?). The dialogue isn't exactly profound, but it is snappy, and hits the mark more often than not (the boy band opening bit is a dead-on scream). The music is pure buggle-gum, but the flavor lasts (these cats' claws have hooks). Interestingly, a quick survey of contemporaneous reviews suggests that many critics (e.g., the New York Times, the Observer, and James Berardinelli) believed the barrage of product placement in the film was bought. Not so, according to imdb. Were the critics wrongly influenced by what Elvis Mitchell called the "sell its cake and eat it, too" approach? Probably not, since most of them seemed to have other gripes. But it does raise an interesting question: how much can, or should, external (or external assumptions, in this case) knowledge affect one's estimation of a film? Admittedly, I didn't know after watching whether money had changed hands or not; in my view, it didn't matter: the joke works if it's directed out or in or both.

Josie and The Pussycats features a great cast - stunning Rachel Leagh Cook, Tara Reid, Seth Green, and that kooky Scott. Brilliant.
But I'm afraid this is all that seems to save this film's dire story plot. It's crap - to put it bluntly.
But to be fair, it has it's moments. Good, clean, sugary fun - the biggest mistake you could make is watching this film through adult eyes.

5 Words.

Never get your cat spayed.

Ours was today, and I am traumatised. When we got her home she was running all over the place, acting drunk because she was drugged up, and chewing on her stitches. Amyea rings the vet up... "Oh, you were supposed to get a collar." Well, thanks for telling us. So, back to the vet, I asked them to look at the stitches and they were fine, she'd just made it bleed a bit. She made a bloody racket in there though when they were looking at her. Poor baby. Then they stuck a collar on her so we brought her home again and she's asleep in the corner of the front room with the fire guard around her. And I am here making mashed potato and drinking hot chocolate. Mollie and J will be back soon though, they're staying over again. So there you go.

I learned to play Closest Thing To Crazy by Katie Melua on the guitar, also learned a few new chords to go with it. Hooray, progress. :)

Well, bye.

How this film got 83% good reviews in the members rate section is beyond me, what a shit hole of a movie.

Josie and the Pussycats

One of those movies they sell for $4 at walmart, i got this for my sister cause it was 3 for $10 and it surprisingly wasn't horrible. Had some funny parts but i didn't really like the two "villians" i guess you would call them, they were bad actors. It actually makes you think if there is any subliminal messaging in the music you listen too, sort of cool

Josie and the Pussycats have been given life through this interpretation of the comic of the same title. Though, handing over this breathe of life isn't as pretty as it could have been. Through its many product placements blatantly stamped into the film, the movie comes across as hypocritical of the plots premise. However, the film makes up for this by having clever (and often funny) plot and dialogue.

Hypocritical. A band whose music incorporates indirect advertising, demonstrates the pitfalls of commercialism -- yet which itself, retains some of the most blatant and frequent instances of Product placement. Terrible script. Stereotypes. The music is worse than the Spice Girls.
