What happens when a man-eating crocodile begins picking off tourists in beautiful Lake Placid? What if the crocodile wants to make it his home?

Starring: Bill Pullman, Bridget Fonda, Oliver Platt, Brendan Gleeson, and Betty White.
Directed by Steve Miner.
Written by David E. Kelley.
Rated R (for violent creature attacks and related gore, and for language).
Running time approximately 1 hour 22 minutes.

Yeah, okay, it's lame. We get it. Now can we please move on to something that's more straightforward about its premise than this goofy, horror schlock! I get so sick of horror films made by people who realize just how bad their ideas are, so they try to make them into a self-satire. The only bright spots are Oliver Platt as the crazy croc hunter, and Brendan Gleeson as the sheriff. Their scenes together made my day. Other than that, it's a completely dull and passable thriller. ** (out of ****) C

In a little lake in northern Maine during a wildlife escapade to tag beavers a Wild Life and Fisheries agent is lost. In the body of the lost agent a tooth that resembles a dinosaur is found. This information is relayed to an archeological museum in New York. Since there is deception within the ranks of the museum the odd lady out is sent on a field expedition to Maine to study the tooth. Once in Maine the archeologist is in no rush to return to New York, she wishes to see the lake the tooth was discovered in, as the tooth appears reptilian. Once the archeologist, local sheriff, and head of Wild Life and Fisheries are on the lake, a world-renowned crocodile specialist arrives in his helicopter and with state of the art equipment. Now that the whole team is together dry humor, sarcastic remarks, and hijinks slap the audience in the face. Oh yeah, and there is the whole business of catching the crocodile to deal with.

"I never heard of a crocodile crossing the ocean."

"They conceal information like that in books."

Steve Miner, director of episodes of Felicity, Smallville, Chicago Hope, Diagnosis Murder, The Wonder Years, along with the films House, Warlock, Forever Young, Friday the 13th 2 & 3, and Halloween H20: 20 Years Later directs Lake Placid. Lake Placid is a horrible name for this film, as they only make one reference to the title in the entire film. Black Lake would have been more appropriate, but we will move on from this topic. The cast chosen is excellent, as people may view this film as just a late night campy horror film. They would be wrong, this is more like a Woody Allen film based on human interactions; however, instead of there being some cheesy, clich

David E.Kelly needs to stick to tv.The characters in Lake Placid are likeable, but don't really seem right for film.Oliver Platt made the whole movie bearable, and I don't understand why Bill Pullmam even gets work-but he seemed alright for this one, thats just how bland LP is.:rotten:
