wow i'm really bad at keeping journals i guess :(

anyway, i saw large flocks of canada geese flying away this morning, it's sad really. then again, xmas is coming. but on the other hand, i still can't find a job! i mean a permanent full time job, a career! i feel like i'm in university and doing all this studying for no purpose at all!! ok, at least i still have till middle of next year before i officially graduate. but it's still depressing. if you know anybody who wants to hire a software engineer/computer scientist, let me know :)

but you know what always cheers me up? movies of course! :) and a certain actor ;) So i saw Legally Blonde on the weekend. always wanted to see it. it was cute and funny. Reese was adorable. but i felt the story is missing some details in lots of places and overall it felt a little empty, still entertaining though. Also caught the last half hour of Proof of Life last night on tv, Russel Crowe was looking real fine :D too bad i don't fancy him that much any more :p

Rated PG-13 for excessive mention of male special areas, expected worthless bad language, and queer content

I saw Legally Blonde after hearing how Ebert and Roeper liked it so much. This seemed like a movie for girls, and the long 5 min. preview before it started hinted that it was. The movie stars Reese Witherspoon, who does a great job with this role. She is a great actress, and she is also extremely sexy. There is an especially long scene with her in a bikini, and another in a bra. That's about as good as you can get for PG-13.

Well, here's the story. Boyfriend and girlfriend. They're both going to college next year. The boyfriend dumps the girl because she's blonde. He gets into Harvard Law, and then Reese follows him, proving that blondes are just as smart as other girls are. Along the way we meet the guy's new girlfriend, a few college professors, a nice guy, a beautician who looks like she's 40, a deliveryman that looks fake, a dork, and a dog. It's all a pretty fun ride, but it has a couple of bumps in the end.

At the beginning I was not sure where Reese lived. Many girls lived in the same house she did. I think she is out of college, so it might have been a sorority. But the girls in it looked really young. (One looked as though she were 12!) However, I wasn't complaining. At some points I saw 3 hot girls at once with low-cut shirts and a lot to cover up. I got the hang of it, though, and I was happy when Harvard appeared.

I saw this movie as a junior in high school, so naturally I have interest in what college is like. (Or graduate school, right?) The parts shown in class were pretty strange. Teachers were asking specific students to recite or recognize definitions, and take stands on certain law issues. Is that how college really is? From what I've heard it's lectures for LARGE crowds, where teachers wouldn't address specific students. It's like the teacher is giving participation grades! Life in the Law school doesn't get better for our golden-headed friend, and she is admirable for how she persists through all the criticism and mean tricks played on her. There is one scene I especially like in which the stereotypically dorky kid asks a girl out.

The girl that the old boyfriend is with is especially a witch. She seems perfect for the creep guy. She rejects Reese, and tricks her into dressing as a bunny for a non-costume party. She hates the hot girl. But all of that changes one day when they both talk. This came out of absolutely nowhere. She is the antagonist and the one who's meanest for a very long portion of the movie. Therefore, standard happy ending rules would allow this b*tch to get trashed at the end of the film. But we like all girls, right? Since girls are supposed to be the only ones who see this film?

My other problem with the ending was the direction in which a male college professor goes. We don't know much about this guy. He looks like someone who might creep some girls out. So what happens to him? Take a guess. His outcome really screws up the ending, which otherwise would be pretty good. More content for girls: The standard gay man on the witness stand, the nice guy (what happens with him in the end?), and a cussing old female teacher. Also, the beautician becomes pregnant at the end. (How the hell can that happen?) Oops I just gave away the best part of the movie. Sorry.

Despite my criticism I still liked this movie. Maybe I've read too much St. Famous. It's good mostly for the Reese's, who I 'd like to get a piece of. Ha ha. And no, I've always wanted to do her. Complete inside joke. Go and see the movie if you want to get it. I recommend it.

Opening: Where is she at beginning? 13

Middle: Reese tuned up the flaws 14

Ending: -2 for witch's change. --4 for teacher's change. 9

Music: It was good and it fit with the movie 10

Visual: J 10

Bad content: This really didn't have to be PG-13. Too much language and sex dialogue 7

My expectations: A couple minor problems. This movie gave me a good feeling, and that's the movie I wanted to see 24

Ebert Bonus: +3

A lightweight comedy starring the always magnetic Reese Witherspoon, Legally Blonde is certainly inoffensive, but in the end, it doesn't deliver the laughs that it promises. Witherspoon stars as Elle Woods, a rich girl who is the most popular in her Beverly Hills school and who is planning to be proposed to by her fabulously rich, popular boyfriend. Unfortunately, her plans go awry when the boyfriend says that they should split up because her image wouldn't be right for his political aspirations. Crushed, Elle decides to follow her boyfriend to Harvard and attend university there...if only to prove that she isn't the dumb, vacuous blonde he is mistaking her for. Predictably, the Harvard crowd is quite snooty toward Elle, yet she overcomes their prejudices and proves her smarts. The film is all very predictable, and also annoyingly repetitive...there are only so many times we can see Elle prove her doubters wrong in grand fashion. I suppose there's an interesting message in this film about reverse prejudice, and how we shouldn't be quick to assume beautiful people can not also be intelligent. It's a good message, alright, but I am not particularly interested in getting life lessons at the movies, especially not in the middle of a lightweight comedy. Alas, Legally Blonde does not contain enough hilarity or satire to be a successful comedy...when it seems to be going for the juggular, it pulls back. Witherspoon, of course, is as bubbly and charming as always, though from an actress who was so brilliant in The Man in the Moon and Election, I worry that her career is veering dangerously close to Julia Roberts territory. I hope I am wrong, for it is Witherspoon, and not her character Elle Woods, that proves you can be beautiful and talented at the same time.

The scene Elle was harrassed by Professor, it made me recall the same experience. It was an old story
However, I'm not like Elle who is a determined girl, so I couldn't change.
Sometime, pretty girl would be the target for teacher to say in class, like "don't panic you don't have a good look, those beauties in ancient story always have bad result!" The teacher also said those beauties seldom live long
That time I was just a 12 year-old girl who had not enough judgement(or it means lacking bravery to reject) what is harrassment and our teacher was famous for teaching students increasing good grades and he also was respected.
