Lost Boys 2: The Tribe

If it had taken itself seriously without the humor throughout, it would not have worked at all. As it is it's mediocre. Nothing great but at least I was entertained.The cast is decent.

Lost Boys: The Tribe, the sequel to the mid-1980s cult classic, The Lost Boys, is, as expected for direct-to-DVD efforts aimed at the nostalgia market, wholly superfluous, adding zero to the Lost Boys universe. Worse, Lost Boys: The Tribe has almost none of the campy charm, let alone the goofy, cheeseball humor of its predecessor. In its place, the producers of Lost Boys: The Tribe have substituted gratuitous violence, gore, and nudity, all of it as dull, unengaging, and unimaginative as screenwriter Hans Rodionoff's flaccid, derivative screenplay and a generic rock soundtrack. Not even Corey Feldman, back as comic relief/vampire hunter Edgar Frog, or Corey Haim, in a meaningless cameo tacked on to the end credits, can save Lost Boys: The Tribe from abject mediocrity.

Lost Boys: The Tribe follows Chris (Tad Hilgenbrink), a twenty-something surfer, and his teenage sister, Nicole (Autumn Reeser), as they move into Luna Bay, California (actually Vancouver) after the death of their parents in a car accident and after Chris, presumably hot-tempered, lost a major sponsor. The only connection Chris and Nicole have to Luna Bay is their aunt, Jillian (Gabrielle Rose), a real estate broker who lets them live in one of her rundown houses for a modest monthly sum. Chris, eager to get a job and bring some cash in, hears Edgar Frog, surfboard shaper, is in need of help. Not finding Frog at his camper, Chris and Nicole leave. Invited to a late-night party by former surfing champ Shane (Angus "brother of Keifer" Sutherland), and Shane's cronies, Jon (Kyle Cassie), Kyle (Shaun Sipos), and Erik (Merwin Mondesir).

At the party, Shane puts the moves on Nicole. A bikini-clad guest at the party, Lisa (Moneca Delain), comes on to Chris. Of course, what Chris doesn't know will kill him (or at least turn him into a creature of the night). While Chris manages to escape Lisa's clutches, Nicole succumbs to Shane's charms. Drinking from a tainted flask containing wine and Shane's blood, Nicole is just one step away from becoming a full-on, blood-sucking vampire. All she needs to do is kill her first victim and eternal life is hers. Eager to stop his sister from becoming a full-on vampire, Chris rushes to Frog's camper for help against Shane and his vampire gang. The only chance Chris has is to kill the "head vampire" before Nicole kills her first victim. If he doesn't succeed, Nicole is lost forever.

Less a sequel than a remake, Lost Boys: The Tribe simply takes Lost Boys, ages the central characters, switches genders, and otherwise follows the formula laid out in Lost Boys, except with more gratuitous violence, gore, and nudity (it definitely earns its "R" rating) and far less of the campy humor and pseudo-intellectual naval-gazing that made Lost Boys a favorite among genre fans. If you look up director P.J. Pesce's credits, you won't anything noteworthy. He knows his way around direct-to-DVD mediocrities (e.g., Sniper 3, From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter) and uses what he learned in his earlier, forgettable efforts to equally forgettable results here, down to the obligatory, splatter-filled Tom Savini cameo in the opening scene.

If, though, you're a Corey Feldman fan (and really, who isn't these days?), then maybe you should give Lost Boys: The Tribe a shot. Actually, no, let's back up a second. No, you shouldn't. Never the most subtle or talented of actors, Feldman growls his way through generic, unfunny one-liners. While the one-liners aren't his fault (most of the blame for the insipid dialogues belongs to Rodionoff), his flat, unenergetic performance is. But hey, it's not like Feldman's busy these days. Outside of his reality show with childhood friend and former child actor Corey Haim, Feldman has a lot of free time on his hands, at least when it comes to his moribund acting career, a career he tries to resuscitate periodically with little success.

Unfortunately, the co-leads, Tad Hilgenbrink, Autumn Reeser, and Angus Sutherland, don't do Feldman (or their careers) any favors. Hilgenbrink is no Jason Patric, Reeser is no Jami Gertz, and Angus is no Keifer. Angus has

Also, I recently watched Garden State again, which I have had on DVD for quite sometime and only watched once. But I found myself loving this wonderful movie even more a second time around. Zach Braff and Natalie Portman really need to hook up again on the big-screen. Another one I recently caught on DVD was Doomsday starring the extremely talented and sexy Rhona Mitra (TV's The Practice and Boston Legal). The story is average at best, but the action-packed scenes make up for that. Overall, Doomsday is like an average, but very bad-ass mix of Mad Max meets Resident Evil. And last, we have Lost Boys 2: The Tribe, which is obviously the extremely delayed sequel to the best vampire movie ever made... The Lost Boys. Overall, this one wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. Tad Hilgenbrink (American Pie Presents Band Camp) leads the way and I guess having Corey Feldman back really helped. Also, it was very clever to have Keifer Sutherland's younger brother, Angus, in a very similar role. And last but not least, we get the very talented and very HOT Autumn Reeser (TV's The O.C.) as the female lead.

Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are an outrageous match made in heaven on the big-screen. Despite being extremely ridiculous and childish, Step Brothers was so damn hilarious. Check this one out if you love anything that has Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly or Judd Apatow related to it. This is definitely one of the funniest movies of the year just right behind Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Smart, and just ahead of Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. :D

Not as good as the first one but, still dang good. It keeps the story going and it is a very good movie. Also, it could have done with out the nudity but, hey what ever sells the movie to some people I guess. Watch the credites because, it shows what happened to the other Frog brother.

Freaking Rip Off. PURE WASTE OF TIME. Huge fan of the original and couldnt wait to see it.

BUT, it' s a low (and I mean low) budget rip off of the first one. CHEESY. Feldman is retarded and Haim couldn't get it together to make a real appearance....you'll see

The only thing that The Lost Boys 2: The Tribe accomplishes is to remind everyone how much charm and style the 1987 original had.

Twenty-one years after the first Lost Boys film we get this weak sequel. This time we have a brother and sister who move to Malibu and get tangled up with a bunch of surfing/skateboarding vampires. The movie strives for the magic of the first, following a very similiar plotline. The film is undeniably well shot, but it has no soul, while going overboard with the gratutious sex and gore.

The only real connection to the old film is the appearance of Corey Feldman. He hasn't changed that much in looks after all these years, except now his voice sounds more like Lauren Bacall. The cast leaves little impression, especially the vampires, whose personalities are as diluted as a lake with three drops of blood poured in. The only one who makes much of an impression is Tad Hilgenbrinck in the lead. Too bad he is a lost boy in a lost movie.

As I discussed with my friends, this was basically a remake, and they're just calling it a sequel to not offend the huge LB fans. It was...ok? I guess? I kinda liked the lead guy and girl, but when it tries to get scary, it just speeds up what happens on the screen and pours blood everywhere. Meh.
