Unfortunately you're correct. It is just another cop show with the occasional references to Sherlock Holmes.
Please do not get mad at me for this comment folks? If you like this show, that's fine... I just personally believe it is not worth all the hype?
So often in this, Sherlock just knows the answers but that is not what Conan-Doyle made him as.

Idris Elba is really good in this show. I hated his character in The Wire(but thats my favorite show of all time, def. top 3). He played the character well just was not cool as the other character were. Everyone was gangster, he was just fake. In this though he's a clever, go get 'em detective. Happy BBC decided to come out with season 3. This show deserves it. If you haven't seen it yet, this is one you should give a try. it got a 8.4 rating on IMDb which is very high on that site.(same as Hannibal and higher then other cop shows like The Mentalist, Criminal Minds, est.)
