@spotflare thanks for the tip and yeah I heard that the author vowed to never watch the film and that he even sued the producers because they didn't show it from Chief's perspective. Also Jack Nicholson and director Milos Forman were constantly at odds with each other which is a possible explanation as to why Nicholson feature on any DVD special features. Really it's remarkable that this film won anything let alone 5 Oscars.

@jackob125...yeah, and it certainly wasn't as good as the book...ken kesey wasn't all that gleeful about it either...btw, he's of "ken kesey and the merry pranksters" - those who tom wolfe traveled round the country with and then wrote THE ELECTRIC KOOL-AID ACID TEST about...go to wikipedia if you're interested.

@spotflare I can understand and appreciate the statement that is being put across and I will agree that it is still a strong statement. I also would have to agree that even after all this time this film still comes across well. I just feel that this film had a lot more potential and so I find it difficult to really rate it that highly. Don't get me wrong though even in light of this it is still a very good film, just not a GREAT film.

@jackob125...almost 40 years old...when it came out, it was a fresh and heavy statement...still is to a lot of us who were just learning the truth about the "business/government socio-economic system"...been done many times since, but this one and EASY RIDER were a couple of the first...another good one by ken kesey is SOMETIMES A GREAT NOTION (aka NEVER GIVE AN INCH).

I'm a little conflicted over this one. On one hand I thoroughly enjoyed the film but on the other I can't help but feel extremely disappointed. The story of this film is great and Jack Nicholson is sublime but for all the hype this film got for me it just doesn't live up to my expectations. I think the real reason for this is the ending (DON'T WORRY NO SPOILERS) it just didn't give off the emotions that it should have done and I put this down to the character Chief. It was his job to carry that scene and make the audience feel the full emotion of just what he was doing and why he was doing it. Alas in this sense he failed. Hence my disappointment. This scene is what should make the movie but, unfortunately for me, it breaks it.

Finally crossed this one off my "To watch" list. What a great movie.

Still the Best of the Best, even after 20-25 viewings - I gain additional insights. The classic of all classics, long live Jack... he was the "Great One" here!
