uhmmm... i probably shouldn't have watched it... i found it really slow at times... most times... but did enjoy a few scenes. it's pretty much like real life. wait for elevator. wait for train. some sort of problem that seems deep rooted and like it's not changing any time soon.
there just wasn't any joy or laughter in this movie. so that's what makes it not like real life, to me. no glimmer of hope. nothing positive at all, really. i mean, i can relate to that feeling, but it's really just skimming the surface. i guess this movie just seemed superficial, to me.
i'm pretty biased towards happy goofy playful fun creative quirky funny movies, tho. so this definitely wasn't any of that.
yeah.
i'm not gonna recommend it, but... you may like it.

Sometimes, you watch a movie, and you just...don't...get it. I was not sucked into (forgive the word choice) this movie and it stirred no emotional response in me. I think the lack of back-story and understanding of what drove the behavior of the two main characters simply led to my viewing indifference. I really didn't enjoy the script, there wasn't any humor, any profound insights- the scarcity left me hungry for poetic cinematography to feast on. In this film, I found none either. It may be a "love it" or "hate it" kind of film. I will say the actors seemed to do well with the material they were given. It's rare that I rate well-under IMDB. For me, this film was 4/10.

Ah. Maze. Ing.
Really one of the best movies of all time. Fassbender and Mulligan lay it all on the line. Brutally honest depiction of addiction, mental illness and sheer utter lonliness. The spare, haunting soundtrack and NYC cinemetography are perfect accompaniments. A movie that should have easily garnered Fassbender (not to mention Mulligan and director McQueen) an Oscar nod, but just too risque for the Academy, sadly.
This sexually graphic NC-17 rated movie is not for everyone, but I'll take this movie over Silver Linings Playbook any day of the week. 11/10

Great film, the main character is somebody you can relate to.

I thought this was one of the more effective films in the last few years. Fassbender is incredible as is Mulligan who really plays against type. I can't believe Fassbender was snubbed. His performance in this film is THE BEST of 2011.

Thanks for the links! The movie is just ok. The pain they suffer is great and palpable on screen, but as far as the story being rounded, kind of boring.
