Classic.. i was able to see this in the movies when it came out.. i love a good graphic Action flick & this filled every void.. my only qualm was witht hte fact i wanted to see the sequel and that didn't come out until years later.. so not they have all 4 and i'll be watching all 4 in a row.. in 3...2...1.. ;)
a movie made at 97 is extremely well done the efects positive no doubt my opininon much better then many famous movies from that time and no doubt from now shhhh wake up.
@Enki812
yes we know why ya like this Film might it be Casper Van Dien?
I loved it too. I agree part 2 was a stinker. This was fun to watch, had action, blood, gore, a great love story, and just plain rocked as a SYFY Flick! 9.5/10
This old thing is an epic for all the cheesy reasons. You guys should see it for what it is instead of dissecting it as if someone pays you to criticise. If you watched it in 97, it would have been a wowser. It still is, but now, the cheesiness in just that more obvious... and funny. Nerd points 7/10
Not as good as I remember it...probably because I have some bad memories from bad experiences I had when I watched it the last couple of times.
I really don't like Paul Verhoeven's directing style.

Pretty cool. not a blockbuster but it's not terrible. some cool action and some pretty good effects. 7 on 10
Like the title says, the main charcters die like everyone else....unlike other movies where they are normally invincible :P that said i found it fun to watch and well if a movie is fun and entertaining i see no reason to give it a good rating so go troopers :) oh and some of the violent deaths don't hurt it either....
(TV)(First Viewing, 4 Verhoeven films seen)

I was flipping through the channels and came across a young Denise Richards. I had no idea what it could have been, but then soon realized through a bug autopsy sequence that it was Starship Troopers. I had wanted to see the film for some time, because I am such a fan of disaster movies (they suck, but that's the point). Now I love Eight Legged Freaks but was real disappointed by this film. It wasn't nearly as campy as it should have been.

Instead you might like...
- Eight Legged Freaks (Ellory Elkayem, 2002) - A variety of horrible poisonous spiders get exposed to a noxious chemical which causes them to grow to monumental proportion.
It has some elements missing, but overall, very fun to watch!
The first STARSHIP TROOPERS? A very good, almost, almost brilliant film. I say almost because, well, as seemingly intentional as the wooden acting is, it's still fucking wooden. I mean, redwood-wooden. Like these fuckers were walking around the streets, and Verhoeven stopped them to tell them he was casting them in this bug film. Verhoeven, by the way, is a fucking master of the form, with only one(one!) of his films being weak in my opinion. That would have to be HOLLOW MAN. That includes the fact that I'm a fan of SHOWGIRLS(misunderstood), TOTAL RECALL, ROBOCOP, BASIC INSTINCT, etc.........I think Verhoeven is a highly unheralded genius. The thing I love about all his films is that they all have a satirical slant to them. Except for HOLLOW MAN, which I think that Verhoeven wanted to make satirical, but got side-tracked.

STARSHIP TROOPERS 2: HERO OF THE FEDERATION is, by all accounts, a terrible film. Bad acting, bad special effects, bad directing, it has it all. You can always tell when a sequel doesn't have the budget of the first one, because all the effects shots are in the dark, and they usually make a claustrophobic thriller of the proceedings, a la THE THING. I just wish they would have asked Verhoeven to direct the second one, given him the money, and cut him loose. I hate it more than I hate Madonna when they do a direct-to-video sequel of a film that I loved initially. I guess it's not in the cards, though, for me to see a decent STARSHIP TROOPERS sequel.

Fuckers.
