I'm aware of the game and i read many of the previous comments about the movie before i even watched, and i'm affraid i have to agree on basically everything. I really hope this wasn't the last movie Duncan made!

the only "street "fighter thing about this film was the name of the characters, the rest is rubbish. Give it a 0/10 FAIL!

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li is a lowly B-grade film that lacks almost everything you normally find in a movie. The cast mainly comprises of Television actors, whom should just remain as Television actors judging from their horrendous performance. The special effects are quite dismal. As if that's all, the storyline is extremely weak and this could as well be the worst movie of the year.

I knew this movie wasn't going to be well received but I don't think it's as bad as the reviews have said so far. Focusing less on the video game portrayals and concentrating on a handful of characters, this movie tries to be a more realistic Street Fighter. It works for some characters like Balrog who weren't so over the top but others like Vega and Bison come across okay. The fighting is toned down too. They were trying to keep it realistic with little nods to the game. The film in general wasn't half bad with just a few exceptions. The GGI toward the end was generic and could have been so much better. The other big gripe is the horrible performance of Chris Klein. They should have left him and the rest of the police involvement story arc out of the movie and focused even more on Chun Li and toward the budget for the special effects. I think I actually prefer the Jean Claude Street Fighter over this one. The insanely over the top craziness of the game was just captured better in it than in this more realistic version.

This was a very bad movie! If your friend gives you this movie on CD, get a new friend! :rotten:

The movie is worth seeing. It's the kind that's bad in a good way. Chris Klein is terrible and personally I feel he's responsible for much of the negativity towards the film. I didn't know much about the cast before seeing this movie and when Klein came into the picture, I knew it wasn't going to be pretty.

I'm surprised to say that the 1994 Street Fighter movie was much more entertaining than this update. SF: Chun-Li was like a very average direct-to-dvd release...

when i first heard they wher making a new SF movie i was exited because after 15 yrs i thougth they would have a better story line than what they came up with. i actually wanted to like this movie but this movie is so bad that it makesthe fisrt SF look like a master piece and no joke the first SF movie is better than this new SF. i would rather see the jonas brother movie than see this "movie" again. this is just terrible but the girl who plays chung li she is cute besides that half of the story line did not made sence to me. over all this movie sucks, worse film of the year thus far.

Great to see a Gamer movie where the special sci-fi effects were kept to a minimum, and there was actual beat-down fighting. The women in the movie were very well cast, to say the least. I really enjoyed it. It is not Oscar material, but who needs it to be, to just have fun at the movies.

Well, with Chun-Li being one of my favorite fictional females of all time, I was sad to see just how bad they dropped the ball on this one. Yeowch.

Like many others, I too came to the premier with reasonably low expectations. However, I was not do delightfully amused by how much further the movie fell short. It really does beg the question, "is this REALLY how you're going to restart the franchise?"

The acting is laughable, the special effects: unnecessary. They try to go for a realistic feel and then we're doing fireballs. And so on and so on as my predecessors have said if you've read any other reviews.

What burns me, as a die hard, "video game to movie" fan, is that it's just literally impossible for filmmakers to follow the simple storyline that the video game mythos has set up. Okay, so there's not a full backstory on Chun-Li so that's why you're making a movie right? Fine. But Chun-Li's father is referred to one more then one occasion as a detective, and not fully loaded. If you were trying to infer that by being a "businessman" he is secretly trying to take down Bison, you needed to do a little better.
Also, Keep the characters in their right personas: I understand outfit changes but Gen had white hair and looked nothing like the actor that portrayed him.

If I could rewrite it, it would go something like this:

Chun-Li grew up a middle-class member of society growing up with her father who was often absent because he worked to support her. (If you HAVE to explain the mother because it's SO important to tie that up, just say she died giving birth to Chun-Li). As a result of her father's absence, you see Chun-Li develop the sence of independence she has in the subsequent Anime feature film as well as in the Alpha Series (for all you technical types, im going to quietly ignore the animated series where Chun-Li is a little less empowered, but still more capable than the piano player featured, but this is my story and I'll write what I want to, clearly the filmmakers did)
Her father and her are still depicted as close but then she witnesses his abduction, she is stunned and begins her whole vengence ark which leads her to subsequent training with Gen even though not explicetly true to the videogame arc, I could still somewhat buy it. Chun-Li's attitude and independence manifest as she sports signature spiked bracelets while hunting down info on Bison and working along side but not totally with Charlie (who in my take, puts down the gun and kicks a little ass).
Fastforward to the end, she sees her father, fights bison, loses valiently, and watches him run off with her father. At that point you see her signing papers with Charlie to enroll her in police academy thus setting her up with the world of INTERPOL she is so famous for.

That's my quickie fix on it, obviously Bison would also not be a blonde Irishman and I'd maybe wait a little on the "Rose" arc, but they had to fill the time with something. With this ending you're set up for new films where if you're still exploring the past of Ken,Ryu, and others, and you want to use Chun-Li she can be a rookie interpol cop trying to find her bearings.

Moreover, if I were going to add corny lines such as "and milk expires as well" to my movie, I would also put a little more fan-service in there. For instance, Chun-Li is obnoxiously put in blue a bunch of times in the film as her signature color from the game (which was what I call a "lame ass attempt at fan service, as well as the white dock martins...) Regardless, someone should have said, "you sure like Blue Chun-Li" and quickly she would reply "and if you press start, I like pink" (fans knowing when you press start chun li's costume color changes) the people would say "what" she'd say "nothing" and it would be a humorous aside that I think films should shamelessly have.

Okay, I'm earning my own rotten tomotoes. Final note of a long post: hated it!
