That saxaphone lick that plays while hes driving is haunting and the lack of dialouge is great. I think the movie Drive takes alot of cues from this one.

Now this is a classic! Such a powerful movie, the 'you talking to me' scene alone is a huge part of movie history. Watching a lowly cab driver with serious social issues becoming a self trained vigilante assassin never gets old.

De Niro at his absolute best. 10/10

Thoughtful and dark. The inner-personal conflict of Travis Bickle is not totally comprehensible, but dangerously accessible. His sort of arrogant, voluntary exile from society is tremendously unsettling. Bickle is one of the most astonishing characters in film, and fearlessly embodied by Robert De Niro. The script is brilliantly structured, appearing at times as just a culmination of loosely related scenes, but each is in fact a dramatic step towards Bickle's martyrdom. Scorsese's directing is more violent and ugly than it's ever been, complimenting the anti-hero. The narration is weighty and disturbing, sometimes funny, much like the score transitioning from daunting, dramatic orchestration to soft jazz without missing a beat. It's an impressive achievement in cinematic art with a great cast and a haunting message. Gets better every time.

A masterpiece of a movie, great acting by De Niro and Foster, who really made a name for herself in this movie. De Niro created a character who literally scares the crap out of you but makes you root for him at the same time. A wonderfully written movie, which I give a 4.5 of 5.

Taxi Driver,a classic film from young Martin Scorsese, follows discharged Marine Corps member Travis Bickle who takes up a job as a NYC taxi driver. His travels lead to find and analyze all the scum that plagued NYC streets at night. He also fell in love with a political activist and saved an underage prostitute. But he slowly becomes more and more revolutionary, before finally snapping in a homicidal, undeniably climactic shootout.

Taxi Driver was a breakthrough film for young Robert De Niro, who plays the role of Bickle fantastically well. He may have won the Oscar (though I'm not sure) for his performance. The film wouldn't be half as good without De Niro. He brings Bickle to life,as a relateable and graspable character instead of an underground mercenary.
(Very) young Jodie Foster is fantastic, too,as Easy,an underage prostitute. De Niro visits her with the intention of bringing her to safety. She politely declines, however, leading De Niro to take drastic measure to ensure her safety.

All in all,Taxi Driver is a scum-filled,bloody mess of a look at NY culture in the 70's. Scorsese hits every nail on the head, with original dialogue and an entertaining movie. The movie seems aimless for a long time, but it's good enough that we can just see through it and watch it for what it is.
