DEM SOME RUDE BWOYS, MAHN.
For those of you who enjoy watching the "Vikings" series, here is an excellent norsemen movie to watch..you have your gore/blood/action/adventure all rolled into one ... not to mention you have Antonio Banderas in it!!
"Lo, there do I see my father ... 'Lo, there do I see my mother, and my sisters and my brothers ... Lo, there do I see the line of my people, back to the beginning ....Lo, they do call to me ... They bid me take my place among them in the halls of Valhalla ... Where the brave ... May live...
... Forever" ... In AD 922, an important emissary who is banished from his homeland. The nomadic outcast comes across a band of Norse warriors who coerce him into joining them when they are summoned to fight mysterious creatures legendary for consuming every living thing in their path. Eventually surrounded by the frightening and ferocious foe, Ibn must conquer his personal fears and help battle the illusive invaders--who emerge out of the shroud of fog in the black of the night.
As I start to review the movies I own, I have to start with the 13th Warrior. This is just my kind of movie, pointless sword swinging with heads flying everywhere. Though the 13th Warrior is a been there done that action movie it nonetheless enjoyable to watch. The Viking backround was well created, without any real stars besides Antonio Bandaras the movie is not covered in poor accents and even poorer acting.

Far from a quality movie, with similar storyline to other's in it's genre, the 13th warrior still kept me on the edge of my seat with each action sequence. All in all if you enjoy swords in a mythical time with lots of bloodshed and pointless killing this could most definately be a movie for you.
I'm not an Antonio Banderas fan by any means, but he does a great job in parts and movies that are well written. Also I'm rather amused by the negative reviews I've seen that boil down to "I wanted more effects," or "I don't get it."

The 13th Warrior is a simple adventure movie. The more advanced cultures around the Mediterranean were coming into contact with the primitive tribes of Europe. And in Europe there were tribes even less advanced than the Vikings depicted in the 13th Warrior (i.e. the cannibals.) I found the differences in technology and customs very intriguing. Add to that the idea of one man's superstition being another man's religion, and you get a solid film that is more than just a time killer. When such movies are "wet" with effects, you often see characters that are one dimensional or plots that take the cheap way out of relying strictly on effects rather than the art of story telling. The 13th Warrior tells its story honestly.
Some of the better stuff out there. Not sure how this system works yet.
Joe McTieran completely misses again in this bad adaptation of a Crichton novel. Crichton books don't end up well on the screen, because, well his books suck.

*.5/****
Not a big Antonio fan, but liked this movie. Yet another underrated movie by the RT hacks. Visually great film with good interactions showing old viking ways of life with good action and pretty good suspense.
