While I don't think it's up there with the first two Sam Raimi films, I will give director Marc Webb props for finally casting the perfect Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Once you've seen Andrew Garfield in the title role, you won't want to see anyone else. He nails Spidey's sardonic wit and likability. Emma Stone generates sparks between the two of them in their love scenes, and Rhys Ifans was an unexpected choice for Dr. Curt Connors/The Lizard but he did a fine job with the role. The unfortunate part is that I've already seen this story told, and frankly, I liked the way Sam Raimi brought his trademark visual inventiveness and campy sense of humor to it. Sure, Tobey's got nothing on Garfield but Rosemary Clooney is the perfect Aunt May, and no matter how much I like Sally Field, she just can't top what Clooney did with the same role. I also happen to like Cliff Robertson as Uncle Ben more than Martin Sheen, and I really liked Martin Sheen. That's something that the Raimi things definitely got right, Aunt May and Uncle Ben.

@steveamber @uunio @fantasticj2 This isn't a reboot of the originals. This is how the story WAS MEANT TO BE. The Tobey Maguire versions were a disgrace to the original story. This new Spider-Man franchise is going to go by the original comic book as close as possible. For instance so many are talking about name changes in the movie, but there just going back to what they should have been in the first place. See in the comic book Peter Parker's girlfriend in high school is named Gwen Stacy. Far in the story she is actually murdered. He doesn't meet Mary Jane until he goes to collage. It's annoying because in the comic book he's extremely paranoid and over-protective. I wonder who they'll cast as the new mary jane further down this franchise, it's fun to think about, maybe Emma Watsons who played Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies, she's hot now.

@Sundial83 - evidently you do.
Frankly, I'm not interested in anything or anyone. I asked simply to understand the system. If you cannot be pleasant to a newbie, then don't reply to a newbie's question.

BENDER SAY'S - It doesn't matter if people like -or- dislike your comments! (points DO NOT reflect same) TRUST ME, I'd be way in the Neg. by now!
Also @JustSayIt the only good thing about points is that you ARE taken much MORE seriously - so in a way they are a good thing!!!
NOW ENJOY THE MOVIES!!! BENDER HAS SPOKEN... (other ques. PM me)

@JustSayIt What do you get if you get more points than you lose? Do you get to become a mod or something? If you do, then good luck in your pursuit. However, if you get nothing for these points, who the hell cares?
reply
It isn't just the mods. Everybody that views your comments can either increase points or deduce you points. Even if you give a movie a good review if somebody that didn't like the movie they can deduct you points simply because they disagrees with you. At least that's the way I see it. It may not be fair but that's the way it is

You know, I'd like to know how this plus and minus system *really* works. You leave a comment, you get deducted points. You leave a good comment, you get deducted points. You leave a bad review, cos the movie sucked, you get deducted points. You reply to someone you get deducted points.
Seriously, is the point system even worth it?

I love this movie. I watched it a couple of times in a row because it was so good. It is, by and far, the best Spiderman movie to date. Garfied was outstanding. He should get an academy award just for pulling off a believable 17yr old. (he's 32?). How many actors can successfully do that? Not many I'd wager. 10/10
