You know it. I really don't understand why people complain. I read a complaint where the guy went so far as to accuse the studios of sapping his money, because they couldn't make just one movie. I think the Lord of the Rings trilogy is a rare phenomenon, and I'm glad that they chose to make this just as epic. The book is huge, and divided into three parts. It would have been a shame to cram all of that story into just one film.
And of course, you have the complainers that criticize the differences between the two mediums. They don't understand that a book can not become a movie, that it can only be a base for cinematic story telling.

I can picture Peter Jackson and J. R. R. Tolkien in a room brainstorming this film. Tolkien was one of the greatest visionary authors ever, and Jackson is a master storyteller as well. I've heard a lot of commentary on the negative aspects of breaking this into three films. All I can say is, in a time where most Hollywood epics aren't really very epic, I will receive this trilogy with open arms.

i think jacksons done a great job ,but six movies ? and theres lots of other directors out there apart from the two you mentioned (who niether have made a good movie in nealy ten years) how about zack shnider ,

@Duffy1975 I think peter Jackson makes it perfect, Tim Burton would have made it cartoony and with singing and M.Knight Shymalan would have just destroyed it like avatar.

great movie,i actualy prefer the charicters in this one to LOTR ,dwarfs kick ass, my only moan is when this triogy is over along with LOTR theres only going to have been one director (not that peter jackson hasent done an amazing job) but ide have liked to have seen someone elses interpratation of middle earth, but when this triogy is over its over.

Is it possible to say this has as much action and excitement as the LotR series? I dare to say so. Every 10 or 20 minutes you are wondering how they are going to survive. (With the exception of the beginning)My favorite movie of the year. 10/10
