One of those movies that's probably really funny on paper, but just doesn't work on screen. The main problem is that it's always uncomfortable and awkward to see Rob Schneider act like a female for pretty much the entire film. I hear the lines, and they're pretty funny, but Rob Schneider playing a female is just a little bit disturbing :)

On paper, it's probably a lot funnier than Freaky Friday, but on screen, it's less awkward to see a daughter and a mother switch places than a super hot chick and rob schneider.

Still, Adam Sandler's cameo is pretty funny.

I must have had a labotomy before voluntarily viewing this. Believe what you here...it is that bad. Oh what I would give to get back that two hours of my life.

Ever seen "The Hot Chick"? Well of course, you have. Or you should of by now. Closely look in the locker room scene where Mattew Lawrence is undressing. Isn't he a babe? He's damn sexy. Not only that, but the movie he plays in is absolutly hilarious.

And I'm finally becoming a pro on Gran Turismo 3: This game kicks butt!

THE HOT CHICK (2002)

THE GOOD:

--A couple of the jokes succeed, but they're few and far between. I enjoyed the reply to "are you eating less or barfing more" (who was that very familiar girl who replied?), as well as "that sounds delicious". April's over-concerned mum had a couple of humorous moments (falling on the cat being one of the couple) and the Korean mother who called her daughter 'LingLing' had pretty cool and funny hydraulics on her car.

--I like the very strange brother/sister relationship in the film, though it is very lightly touched on. A couple of good moments where when Jessica showed sympathy for her cross-dressing little brother getting beaten up, and the little brother accepting his sister for what she is.

THE BAD:

--Though there a few funny scenes or moments, the film as a whole, like Schneider's previous efforts in "Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo" or "The Animal" is seriously unfunny. In fact, it baffles me how anybody could find any of the stuff in this film, or how the writer could think that anyone would laugh. The primary example is the very embarrassing scene where the Korean mother comes to the prom dressed as the stereotypical African-American hip-hopper and breaks into a rap that goes "L to the I to the N to the G!" This is so damn unfunny I couldn't believe it. Don't forget that bartender too, he was so annoying for all his scenes, and the final shot which includes him had me gagging at the funniness that is NOT. Also, the gay little brother felt very tired, and Schneider's various antics as a woman - though he did a good job - were about as entertaining as his crazy acts in "The Animal" - not very.

--You might want to count this with the point up top, but too many of the jokes rely on sacrificing believability for a laugh, which the film often doesn't get out of it's audience anyway. I mean, who could possibly believe that Jessica's father would start spurting intense family problems to a newly appointed gardener? And to a bigger extent - why on earth did he pull down his pants and show 'Takito' his porn-star pubic cut? It's OK that the woman/man switch thing was unrealistic, because that was the basis for the movie, but the little things like this are just unacceptable.

--This movie didn't have a whole lot of premise other than Rob Schneider acting like a woman. Once you've got the plot going, that's all there is to it, plus some annoying, we-don't-give-two-craps-about-these-people love story and that essential and horrible 'we all learn life lessons in the end!' statement, you think it's a movie, and a storyline. No such luck, not at all. The obviousness that "The Hot Chick" was just another moneymaker was obvious by the lack of story. Another point made obvious is that the team of Rob and Adam don't really have that much left in them, look at how much the film steals from their previous efforts - especially the make-over scene (I swear it was stolen footage from "Gigolo"), though the ending to that aforementioned scene was kind of funny.

--Is it just me, or did "The Hot Chick" have serious continuity errors? I noticed them, and usually I don't in movies. It was probably because I wasn't enjoying the movie very much so I noticed the flaws more. Why did the father suddenly assume that 'Takito' was the gardener? And what happened to the real gardener -why didn't he show up and do the work? A comment Rob Schneider makes is "I've been a guy for almost a week now" but he actually hasn't, because someone said the (majorly unnecessary) cheerleading competition was in a week, and Schneider says that after the competition. I mean people make mistakes when they speak and stuff but I doubt that was the point of this error. What about the hickeys on that dudes neck? When he is shirtless during the changing rooms scene they're suddenly gone. There were a couple of unresolved plot points too, like Jessica's mother's lack of suspicion about her husband and 'Takito' giving each other head (she sees them doing something that looks a lot like it, and doesn't mention it again). Another one was the scene where Schneiderized Jessica and her boyfriend are talking and she says 'I should've made love to you when I had the chance' and he says 'Father Mokadi?' or something along those lines...and yet Jessica never brings up the fact that her boyfriend may be screwing a priest ever again, so we can have a lovely kiss-finishes-it-all finale.

RATING:

4/10 - Just another weak Rob Schneider vehicle. Even the adorable (yet over-the-top, in this film) Anna Faris can't save "The Hot Chick" from a severe case of major mediocrity.

Radio

Yes, Radio. I saw this just out of curiousity, and it turned out to be horrible. Cuba Gooding Jr. makes himself look stupid as Radio, and the dialogue is absolutely jaw-dropping. Plus, the only other time I've seen sap like that was stuck to a tree in my backyard! {shameless attempt at being funny}. But just remember, we weren't teaching Radio; Radio was teaching us.

WORST. LOVE STORY. EVER. Well, in the ranks of the Pearl Harbor love story, anyway, with some of the worst dialogue I have ever heard in movies. Great visuals, though.

My cousin and sister love this, I watched it whenever they did because I was bored, and guess what? It wasn't funny at all. Plus this film made my hatred for Rob Schneider begin, and I've hated him ever since he made this turdpile.

A Fatal Attraction knockoff that had atrocious acting, and it was only 90 mintues, yet seemed like 4 hours.

I've seen this movie before, when it came out in theaters, but this time I noticed a few things that I didn't before. Much of this new awareness is courtesey of Scary Movie 3, and the star of that film, Anna Faris (did you know she was in Lost in Translation too? How versitile.)

When I was watching Scary Movie 3 and listening to the commentary I began to appreciate Anna's commedic timing. She does that doe-eyed naive dumb look really well. And I don't just mean she's good at acting "dumb", because lots of people can do that. But she's really good at making it both funny and innocent. Most people when they act dumb do it way over the top, but she has a subtleness about her stupidness that I appreciate.

The first time I saw "The Hot Chick" I didn't know who she was, but this time I payed more attention to her performance. She did a good job.

The other things I noticed was the writing. Honestly, the writing was terrible, but it was so terrible that we were laughing through most of the film. And I thought about it and realized that to have that much corny writing might have been intentional. I mean, I suppose this point could be argued, but some of the dialogue was really, truly funny, even when the moment in the film was "serious", and a lot of it was due to the delivery of the actors. If you analyze the film a bit you can see that they were actually trying to do the "serious" parts a bit tongue-in-cheek and it came across while watching.

I think it was fairly subtly done. I can imagine a lot of people would just dismiss this film as a dumb, sophmorish comedy with no redeeming value, but I think they actually did a good job with the film. Sure, there were some slap-stick silly commedic bits in the film, but aside from those, there were other, less obvious moments of comedy that I really appreciated.

So, I'm giving the film an 7. The first time I saw it I probably would have given it a 5 or 6, but I think I grew to appreciate it a little more this time around.

However, I still don't really like Rob Schneider. I gave him a 6. (he would have gotten a 5 but he wrote the screen play for the film so I'll give him some kudos for that. I gave Rachel McAdams an 8, mainly because she's Rachel McAdams. And I gave Anna Faris a 9, because this film helped me appreciate her abilities much more.
