In 1989, an era which fans like to call the Disney Renaissance began. In this era, Disney made a total of 10 animated movies that were all successful and well received by critics and fans alike. However, in 1994, the most successful (and undeniably one of the best) film was released: The Lion King. The movie only had a budget of $45 million and managed to gross over $700 million, and was nominated for 4 Oscar awards, out of which in won 2.

The film tells the story of a young cub named Simba (voiced by Jonathan Taylor Thomas), who flees his home, Pride Rock, after his evil Uncle Scar (voiced by Jeremy Irons) kills Mufasa (Simbas father, Scars brother and King of the Pride Lands, voiced by James Earl Jones). As Simba runs away, he befriends a meerkat named Timon (voiced by Nathan Lane) and a warthog named Pumbaa (voiced by Ernie Sabella). Soon Simba (now an adult voiced by Matthew Broderick) meets his childhood friend Nala (voiced by Moira Kelly) and soon returns to the Pride Lands to confront his evil uncle and reclaim his stolen throne. The movie also includes the voice talents of Rowan Atkinson, Whoopi Goldberg, Cheech Marin and legendary voice actor Jim Cummings.

The animation in the movie is beautiful. It uses a variety of computer and hand drawn techniques to produce a stunning looking film. The drawings of the characters are fantastic and smoothly animated, and the computer shading, reflection and lighting techniques blend in well into the traditional animation.

The score for the movie is composed by German composer Hanz Zimmer. This is arguably one of best film scores ever. The music is synced well and has a unique, epic but calm feel to it. There is not a single dull piece of music in the entire film score, so kudos to Zimmer. The songs in the film were done by Elton John (music) and Tim Rice (lyrics), and both of them did a splendid job. Simply stunning.

Overall, The Lion King is one of the best movies ever created. It is no surprise that this is one of Disney's most successful films, as it is a true movie wonder no matter how you look at it. A true animated masterpiece.

The best Disney animated film of the 1990s.

Well, it's that time of the year, and I have made up a holiday of my own. I was inspired by the Nostalgia Critic to make up holidays; he did "Nickelodeon Month" and "Arnold Schwarzenegger Month". This special holiday special is called "Disney Month", the month where I review nothing but Disney movies. Let's party! *plays some party music* Today I'm going to review "The Lion King".

1994 was a pretty swell time for movies. We had "The Santa Clause", "The Shawshank Redemption", "The Mask", "Pulp Fiction", "Dumb and Dumber", "Ed Wood", and oh, let's not forget "The Lion King". This movie is, without a doubt, the best Disney film of the Renaissance era. It was one of the first Disney movies I have ever watched.

This movie is about a young cub named Simba who is determined to become king of the Savannah, but when his father Mufasa (voiced by James Earl Jones) dies in a stampede of wilderbeasts, he knows he must reveal his true identity.

What makes "The Lion King" a successful Disney animated feature is that like every other Disney animated movie, it has unforgettable characters, and catchy songs. No wonder this movie and "Aladdin" won 2 Oscars for Best Score and Best Original Song.

"The Lion King" is my third favorite Disney movie of all time. You can't go wrong with this movie!

Final Score: 100/100 (Awesome)

One of the few animated movie worthy of a perfect score.

This movie is entertaining for children and adults, and the plot was very original and fresh. The songs were memorable; the characters unique; and the animation was fantastic.

Would recommend this movie and Disney movies of this era and before it to anyone.
