Terrrrrrrrrrific movie. I was in suspense almost the entire time. With well-worded scripts and amazing acting, this movie makes for a must watch.. right now! Love it!

Starting with a five minute view of men playing poker, and extreme closeups I was immediately put off my this movie. The acting was good but could not carry this movie.

The story-line was confusing at best. Who was the FBI agent? Who did she report to? Was their a love affair between mom and son?!

In a presidential election year, what could be better than a political intrigue film detailing the attempted subversion of our nation's higest office? But haven't we seen the blockbuster political film for the year? In my book, Fahrenheit 9/11 failed at its calling, but The Manchurian Candidate picks up where it left off by moving away from mere embellishment of fact to a completely fictional but gripping conspiratorial tale. The Manchurian Candidate might just challenge the audience to reassess the presidential election in ways we may never have thought of before. Is there really a sleeper in the White House? Could big budget companies and American Dynasties be paying to have their views expressed by a puppet? The degree to which this occurs in The Manchurian Candidate is extreme, of course, but smacks of a familiar Texan and the accusations Michael Moore's film made against him.

Denzel Washington plays Bennet Marco, a Major in the U.S. Army who commanded a small group of men in the Gulf War. Thirteen years after a skirmish he thought he had a perfect memory of, he is experiencing horrible nightmares conflicting with his public version of events and running into old war buddies who are having the same problems. What happened during their time in Iraq? After seeing how poorly one of his men has fared after all these years, Marco decides to visit Sergeant Raymond Prentiss Shaw (Liev Schrieber), who is now being elected as a Vice Presidential Candidate. Marco fights to understand these strange nightmares and occurrences, but will he ever understand what happened to his troop in Iraq? Or does he share the same destiny as his men?

Overall: Though not as good as the original, the Manchurian Candidate is a worthy remake of the original.

This remake actually lived up to the orignal flick, which I love. Go see it, and forget about the R-rating as it really should have been PG-13.

Lacked the punch of Frankenheimer's classic. Still a respectable attempt at a remake. Demme's film feels somewhat bloated and as a result ends up missing out on leaving any real impact beyond a well told and clever story meant to be a satire. The satirical elements are there but never pushed as they should have been in a film like this. The original takes jabs at McCarthyism among other things and it does so brilliantly within the context of a top-notch absurd yet engrossing political thriller. This time the film feels subdued. Almost as if it was just going through the motions. Its still a success as a thriller because the material makes for a great film, but it was up to Demme and company to do something more with it and I don't feel they did. Its not a bad film by any means, but I don't think the classic needed to be remade if this was all they planned on doing with it. And there are a wealth of things they could have done with such vibrant subject matter. Acting was good all around.

The long awaited remake of a classic finally comes to the big screen. Not as good as the original, no where near as good. The new one is still a thriller that has been getting oscar buzz for sometime now. But the overall outcome was pretty disapointing, and fans probably won't be very happy, Washington's perfomance is good, but I would think we woulf get more from him. But I still think you sould see it, just so you can compare the two.
