One of the last things I wanted from Disney was a sequel to the animated hit film "The Rescuers" made back in 1977. This film is weak in story, it doesn't capture audiences or fills them with a warm feeling like the original did. The characters are unmemorable, the animation is good but doesn't feel like it is following the atmosphere of the original. In other words, if there's no million-dollar trivia question of this film for you to answer, don't bother, it isn't worth your time or money.

Along with Great Mouse Detective, The Rescuers Down Under is a wonderful adventure with some experimentation with computer animation. Compelling story with plot complications is mature enough to engage adults, visuals are matched by the strong voice cast including George C. Scott as a nasty villian. As often a Disney custom, the villian is match comic relief side kick (in this case mute lizard henchman). One of the best examples of cinematic comic timing involves the two counting eggs. This one of the best sequels of any kind ever.

Here's another film rating.

The Rescuers Down Under did not begin to touch the quality of The Rescuers. The Rescuers felt dark, mysterious, sad, and was very involving. Its sequel felt dried-up, unoriginal, and just fell short of the amount of emotion exuberated in the first one. Really, this movie was not worth watching other than it was am early 90s Disney animated movie, most of which are excellent.

I didn't like so much this second movie as the first one. It wasn't so funny.

This was one of my favorite movies when I was younger. Revisiting it today, however, was NOT that exciting. The animation was just ok and the movie itself felt like I was watching a cartoon on TV instead of a film. I dunno, it was ok, but I probably won't watch it again now that it didn't live up to my preconceived thoughts about it from years ago. MAYBE I'll go back and watch the original? Funny, I hardly remember anything about that one - maybe I never even saw it?

The Rescuers Down Under is an improvement on the original, which shouldn't be surprising considering the lengthy period of time between the two releases. It's cool that Bob Newhart and Eva Gabor returned for the sequel, and the story and new characters are all fitting for the series. The animation is also stunning, some of the best in any Disney movie, especially when the huge eagle is onscreen. I wish that Bernard and Bianca had been in it a little more, but the other characters are still a lot of fun to watch.

Mulan is one of the last great Disney movies. It has a cool animation style, a great story, and some really good songs. "I'll Make a Man Out of You" is one of the best Disney songs, thanks to good lyrics and a great vocal performance by Donny Osmond (yeah, it's weird that I just said that). The movie has tremendous heart and really funny characters.

Another classic, but where are the songs? What happened to the classic Disney songs?! Not as good as the first film!
