Tightrope is about a divorced detective played by Clint, who is raising 2 girls and must explore the red light district in New Orleans to investigate a killer. He is having a hard time keeping it together. Like a narcotic agent secretly looking for his nest fix, he seeks his fix from the sexual perversions in New Orleans. Eastwood delivers his character in a similar fashion but this movie is more disturbing than the typical cop gone bad movie. Because of this at times Eastwood seems miscast. Especially when he tells Genevieve Bujold he would like to lick the sweat off her body. Less awkward but funny is when he tells the half naked, tattoo seeking, popcicle sucking blonde that he would take her bowling. This movie is good because it is well directed and feels real. We aren't sure how it's gonna turn out until the arm clutching end. Ya gotta see the movie so you can get that pun.
VIDEO 7/10
This is a dark movie and sometimes shows it's age. At times the darks aren't black enough but not distracting.
AUDIO 8/10
The soundtrack helps create the mood. The jazz music sounds great, like a band in your theatre. There is a weird sound they play everytime they show the killer. they also only show his shoes for most of the movie. Both hthe shoes and the sound get annoying. there is occasional surround sound that is well done but infrequent.
SUMMARY 8/10
At times Clint seems miscast but this movie works because of the excellent portrayal of the seedy aspects of New Orleans and we want to know what happens to Eastwood's character.

TENSE THRILLER, NICELY ACTED BY EASTWOOD. NICE ATMOSPHERE, BUT RATHER DARK AND SEEDY. BUJOLD IS SURPRISINGLY GOOD. WELL DONE.

Clint Eastwood stars as Wes Block. a New Orleans detective tracking down a man that kills prostitutes... Hears one catch.... The killer has some of the same fetishes and fantasies of Wes himself. Naturally, Wes begins to question himself and his beliefs alittle bit.

This is pretty close to an unoffical part of the Dirty Harry series. The thing that makes this film alittle different is that he goes into more depth of the killer and overall feels like alot less of a commerical film.

I think it's actually better than Dirty Harry... The killer seems more elusive and the movie just digs deeper into a plot.

Tightrope
Starring: Clint Eastwood, Genevieve Bujold, Dan Heydeya, and Alison Eastwood
Director: Richard Tuggle

When New Orleans homicide detective Wes Block (Eastwood) is assigned to investigate a series of killings in the seamier side of the French Quarter, he discovers that the killer is preying not just on female sex workers, but on the darker side of Block's own nature.

"Tightrope" is a fabulous movie. It unfolds like a classic film-noir detective story, and while I think it was a tad too slowly paced at times, it still managed to keep my interest throughout. The most fascinating part of the movie, however, is the character of Wes Block. It's probably one of the most fully rounded, completely realized, and utterly believable characters to ever appear in a detective flick. While the hunt for the serial killer that drives the movie is interesting, the real heart of the film resides with Block, his two daughters (one of which is played by Eastwood's real-life daughter Alison, who displays much talent at a young age), and the one decent woman he hooks up with while investigating the crimes (Bujold).

This is a different sort of Clint Eastwood crime drama, about a different sort of detective. It's a film that all lovers of police dramas should see.

Tightrope (1984)

Overall this is a pretty standard thriller but the actual plot I just didn't care for. Eastwood's character was really sleazy and it was really hard to root for him and even though Eastwood is usually the antihero his characters are nothing short of awesome. This is probably my least favorite Eastwood movie so far and I'm a fan of many of his so called lesser efforts.
