This one slipped past me 4 years ago when it came out. Decent movie and good acting. This last comment by "anonymous" was over the top. Extreme exageration. Although anonymous was literally at a loss for words, he still managed to write quite a few of them.

Traitor, the new political thriller/action film written and directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff (from a story by Steve Martin Shopgirl, Bowfinger, L.A. Story, Roxanne, The Jerk) is one part Donnie Brasco, one part The Fugitive, one part The Departed, one part Sleeper Cell (the 2005-06 Showtime series), and one (small) part Bourne Identity. While that makes Traitor sound highly or even wholly derivative, there's more at play here than predictable plot turns and twists. When the wheels of the convoluted, complicated storyline aren't turning, Traitor is an often thought-provoking, intelligent drama that explores, if not always successfully, the struggle within Islam between accommodation and extremism. Heady stuff, certainly, more so for its appearance in a late summer release (i.e., where mediocre movies go quietly into the box office night).

Traitor centers on Samir Horn (Don Cheadle), a Sudanese-born American citizen and ex-Special Forces officer with bomb-making and weapons expertise apparently gone rogue. In Yemen, a deal to sell high-grade explosives to Islamic extremists goes awry when two FBI Special Agents assigned to a Special Task Force, Roy Clayton (Guy Pearce) and Max Archer (Neal McDonough), appear with local police officers to arrest the extremists. Refusing to cooperate, Horn is sent to a Yemen prison along with the extremists. There, he slowly befriends the leader of the extremists, Omar (Sa

I feel this movie is a good look into the world of religious extremists. It makes you hate terrorists so much but points out that it's a very small group that is this way yet the world only sees that part and in turn views the entire culture as such. Extremists give a bad name to any group or religion. Their warped version should not be associated with the real religion or group that they claim to be a part of. This movie just so happens to focus on the Islamic extremists. To show how the few in power can manipulate so many into doing heinous acts and convincing (brainwashing) them it's in the name of God and all that is right. All of the actors involved do a great job of getting this message across. The rest of the film was done well too. It had a nice plot, a bit of action, some fighting; just a nice mix all around. The twists and turns are neat here. I saw them coming as always but I feel they are good enough to be a surprise to most viewers. Overall, this movie is a great late summer effort worth a trip to the theater.

I was along for the ride for the first hour, but boy, did this one fizzle. Weaves a complex web, then takes the easy, clich

I was dissapointed with this movie. I felt it could have been a lot better. There was not much action, not very suspensful, and didn't explain anything going on in the movie.
The movie did do a good job of telling everyone about religion and how extreme some groups of people are. The movie targeted Muslims and brought a good point across that not all Muslims are Arabic and that even though only a small % of Muslims are terrorists, the world always seems to compare the small amount to all Muslims.
Overall, i was not thrilled with the movie. it did convey some good messages, but did not have enough action , did not have many big twists, and had no memorable moments from the movie

Yes, Don Cheadle is once again the earnest hero. His backstory is more credible than most, correct casting. Story bumps along and is engaging to the point where you don't really mind the disconnects and leaps. Plays to many people's prejudices. Overall,, satisfactory entertainment with some fascinating scenes.

good enough, I suppose... but it somehow feels like it should've been a much better film.

Why is this getting such a low review rate from the top critics? 53% is way, way too low on this complex piece of political/societal commentary. It was an insightful look into the conflicting feelings a deep undercover agent faces as well as a humanistic showing of the various characters portrayed overall. Highly enjoyable and thought provoking.
