So this is the second installment, the first being better? WOW, I thought that this was pretty amazing and will look around for it. I also enjoyed: "Howls Moving Castle" a lot tamer yet still great.

Spectacular anime. One of those movies that makes you think "I can't believe they were able to do that".
Wow...still in awe over this. Amazing. Now my second favorite anime.

I'm not a hardcore anime freak. I'm more into the old Hong Kong film scene especially their golden age of film, in the late 80's and early 90's. I like anime, but I have never really gotten into it. That said, I do want to watch Akira, Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the Shell, Grave of the Fireflies, and so on and so on. However, I watched Spirited Away in my local theater on time, and I was absolutely amazed. What a wonderful film, full of imagination and beautiful imagery, along with one of my favorite musical scores of all time. I also like dark, gothic films, which brings us to the film I'm about to review, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. Part action, part horror, part chase movies, part western, this film has it all. D is a remarkable killer. He is a Dunpeal, half human, half vampire. He dresses in all black and rides a black horse. His left hand also is infested with some king of parasite, resulting in a sort of odd combination. Lefthand comes in handy however, but I won't spoil why.

D is hired by a father to find his daughter Charlotte, who is kidnapped by the vampire Meira Link. The father also hired the Marcus brothers to find Charlotte, resulting in competition between D and the human brothers. With the brothers is a woman named Lelia, she is saved several times for D and seems to have feelings for him, but her family was murdered by Vampires, which makes it hard for her to trust D. Although, I will say that I don't really thing they were feelings of love. They seemed to be more intrigue, as she could not believe a Dunpeal would help her. The film is wonderful in that there are really only one straight up villain, and the rest our all shades of gray.

The vampire and the human girl are really in love, and just want to be together. Link has to fight his own impulses to suck her blood. The Marcus brothers are really mercenary types, and our eventually picked off one by one by various monsters through out the film. Leila is a very haunted character. She is growing slowly tired of the blood and the killing her life involves. D, however, is bound to his fate. He says very little, but his actions speak for him. D seems at odds with him self, but he is sure of his mission. In the end, however, his human side seems to get the best of him. I won't say why.

All and all, the film is beautiful to look at. Big castles, lots of scary monsters, and a visual detail that is amazing. Consider the fact that Anime captures the subtleties of the face in a way that live action can't. Everything looks realistic, like this was an actual place. The world of D is a future that will never exist. With its combination of future and retro, the film has a wonderful look.

Well, that basically sums up my feelings of this wonderful film. If you like Gothic horror, you should seek this film out immediately.

*SPOLIERS*

I finally saw Secret Window last night!! It was really good. Everyone who saw it either loved it or hated it. A lot of people said it was confusing. I thought it was pretty predictable up until the end about the corn. That was kinda strange. Johnny Depp was so hot. Even when he was dirty! The worst part was when John Shooter (Morton) put the screwdriver through Chico! That dog was so cute!! Anyway other than that the movie was pretty good.

I thought Vampire Hunter D was pretty good. A lot of people like the oringinal but this one wasnt that bad. It was a little bloody though

Today is Good Friday if you didnt read my title yet. I think I'm gonna go look for carpets today and going to my friend Sarah's house. We're gonna watch IT tonight so thats gonna be fun. I never watched it and in the mood for a scary movie.

Nice Pig :D

Hehe, ^_^;; just one last rating and I'll be off for real real. Ahem, Vampire Hunter D is one of the best animated movies I've seen in a long while.

And I'm really surprised the rating's so low! Barely above 6.0. I just had to say my piece (and give a good rating) since I think this movie is being horribly underestimated!

That said, I'll be off again~

Fairly satisifying anime, what I'd wished I'd watched when I saw Van Helsing.

It's like Blade or Underworld, combined with a Sergio Leone western. The main character, D, in fact, reminded me of Clint Eastwood or Lee Van Cleef.

He's a weird character. I wonder, does the face in the hand - a being that's both his good and bad conscience - come standard on half vampires?

Even better was the crew of competing vampire hunters, with their cool gadgets and locomotive-like armored truck.

Still, I wanted more. There were some decent battle scenes, especially when the crew of hunters in their truck mowed down a bunch of zombies. But they held back, just missing on giving me that exploding head I so wanted to see.

And D was all set to have a knock-down drag out with the guy who had a werewolf in his belly, but what happened? Was there a break in the film. I missed this climactic battle scene somehow.

Regarding the vampire and his human girlfriend, there was some pretty clumsy dialogue there. And somehow I don't think it would have been any better in Japanese with subtitles. But as far as vampires go, he's alright. Nice cape.
