Not exactly perfect, but instead loads of glam rock fun.

I've been listening to the soundtrack like mad the past week.

Happy Holidays. Hope everyone had a good christmas. Mine was good.

Recap:
- Spent x-mas eve at my dad's house.
- Got no sleep.
- Got lots of gift certificates.
- Got Beatles: Let it be.. Naked cd. Kind of cool. I haven't heard very many of the songs from Let it be yet. The cd seems to be stripped down versions of the songs.
- Got Lord of The Rings: Risk board game. I think Nicky is sick of playing it. Great fun. Nicky won one and Neil won one.

So yesterday we were shopping for stuff to do more recording with the band. I dropped a bunch of money on recording equipment. Its a 4 track sound card for the computer. This way we can record four tracks at a time. Combined with the crappy sound cards we have 8 tracks.

Today will be spent on the band. We need to record as much as we can while Neil is in town. We're trying to take advantage of his expertise. The recording we did last weekend came out real well. Today we should have drums and keyboards. Its going to be a mad house...

I've always been a huge fan of Bowie, Iggy Pop, T Rex, Roxy Music etc. The music plays a huge role in this movie but the acting - and singing, and story are great too.

There is some cosmic force keeping me from watching Velvet Goldmine. It came from Netflix last week. On Wednesday, Jess, James, Chad and I planned to watch it but it was late. Thursday, Jess didn't feel well. Friday Teri and the kids came over.

And then finally last night we sat down to watch it. We almost made it but a few minutes from the end the DVD skipped. I swear, it was some sort of homophobic right wing conspiracy.

Nonetheless, I saw enough to know that I want to own the movie. Beautiful, skinny boys in makeup? That's Lizporn. Add glitter and its positively orgasmic! I just wish I knew the point of the whole movie!

Cool cast, especially Toni Collette. Cool tunes.

But what's the point? All there is to it is wallowing around in sexuality.

I get it. Jonathan Rhys-Meyers is David Bowie. He even does the simulated fellatio thing with his guitarist like Bowie did with Mick Ronson.

Ewan McGregor is Iggy Pop.

I'm not sure who the other guy was supposed to be. Marc Bolan?

Christian Bale is there as a journalist, and as a sexually exploring fan in flashbacks, to try and tie things together and provide a point of view into the glam rock scene of the 1970s.

But by the time it was all done, I didn't understand what was going on. And it doesn't matter.

For some reason Oscar Wilde is thrown in there, with the filmmakers supposing he was dropped on a doorstep by extraterrestials and was the first true glam rock star. An emerald talisman is passed around by the characters, linking them all to the literary great.

finally i got some dvds off fetchme , so i recieved pretty in pink which i'm gonna watch tomorrow and i got velvet goldmine, which ive actually seen before, but when it first came out, all i remembered is that my mates all thought it was fullon and there was some nudity, haha.. so it thought i might revist it..

Velvet Goldmine : the film is loosely based on the so called relationship between david bowie and iggy pop.. firstly set in the 1970's it depicts the birthing of a new era - Brian Slade (Jonathan Rhys-Meyers) wanted to make an impact, to change the world and he did so with glamrock, daring and unconventionally honest, he filled the streets with glitter, sexual exploration, and the fantasy of being totally care free.. a time when it was cool to be bisexual, and it was all about style.. it wasnt until he met Curt Wild (Ewan McGregor), that his life turned upside down, and eventually came crashing down.. then set in 1984 - its the 10th anniversary of the "fall" of brian slade, and reporter Arthur Stewart (Chirstian Bale) is sent to find out what happened to slade, but what we find out along the way, is that stewart is alot more involved in the story then he makes out, through a series of flashbacks, and story telling done by past managers and ex wife of slade, (Toni Collette) we find out the whole story behind the undoings of a "legend".. soo.. thats the plot pretty much.. all the acting is fantastic, McGregor and Rhys-Meyers both do there own singing, which is fucking awesome, Collette is awesome as the stand by wife, ive yet seen a movie i dont like her in... the music throughout the film is always great, with a placebo providing a performance and short scene.. a warning though, there is quite a bit of nudity.. yep you see McGregor in all his glory.. but overall i really liked it
