a good-looking young man who has a great job and an even greater girlfriend. But just before he's about to get on a plane to China and score his first major account, the past comes back to haunt him. Matthew runs into his good friend Luke (Matthew Lillard), who is dating a mysterious actress, Alex (Rose Byrne). Suddenly he is reminded of Lisa (Diane Kruger), a beautiful dancer he dated years before. But the day after he asked her to move in with him, Lisa disappeared. Now Matthew's search for his long lost love is renewed. The harder he looks, the more the truth gradually, and devastatingly, begins to reveal itself.

what i think about the movie
wicker park was kind of disappointing for my i wanted it to be good but it turns out average ,the main problem is the acting isnt very good kind of wood charters really .like no emotion really, and the story twists come way to offen and kind of get old and arent really exciting anyways which also ruined it the story was kind of weak overall and silly , its predictable but not to bad it's ok thats about it average :rotten: 5-ok -veryflawed but still has a little value

It's an engrossing enough film. It's also pretty neatly put together. It's just that when you finally figured out what happened in the end, you realize that the original idea is very flawed. Everyone involved (actors and director) did their jobs well, but a peice of crap is still a peice of crap no matter how well packaged.

Gotta love Diane Kruger.

Now that that's out of the way, "Wicker Park" is a simple story about obsession told in a complex structure. The story is outrageously unreal, but when it's compiled together like in "Wicker Park", with flashbacks and overlapping timelines, it works. Although I feel the movie has been over-directed to death, it sort of fits the tone of the movie, so I can't help but to just roll with the ball and have fun. Plus, it has Diane Kruger, which makes everything much better and ironic (considering the theme of the movie). I still have to see the original though.

9/10 (unexpectedly high)

This film just didnt capture my interest. I didnt really feel for the characters and overall was bored by this film. I will admit I liked the first half of this film a lot more than I liked the last half. I dont want to say anything more about this film.

DVD First Viewing, 2 McGuigan films seen

Wicker Park tells a story that only exists in stupid movies. A story about lovers kept apart by an outside force, but then a revelation reveals the outside source to be in the same situation as the main character. Confused? Althought the story is woven between the past and the present, the story isn't all that hard to follow. There is more honesty in this film than Closer. The films are pretty similar. But of course people are brainwashed to like stupid end of the year crap starring over-rated actors, blah blah. Wicker Park also has a tremendously beautiful ending. I should know, because a short film I made two years ago with my now-roomie Mark called And So it Seems had the same one!!! I am serious. Same exact music and style. I promise.

Well, I must say I wasn't expecting too much from this film. It had fairly bad reviews and it only grossed twelve million at the box office. Neither the critics or audience appreciated it. I can kind of see why. The promotions weren't too great. I didn't even know what genre of film this was. I thought it was going to be one of those consipiracy type of movies like the Bournce Supremacy but boy was I wrong and I don't mean that in a bad way. This would fit into romance or drama. Now, unlike a lot of other guys, I don't really mind these genres if they are done properly. I sure don't like films like How to Lose a guy in 10 days or Raising Helen but if a movie is made properly and its romance or a chick flick, I can appreciate it. Wicker Park is a little hit and miss. What I like about this film is that its unique. If the first half of this film was better, I would have given this film a much higher rating. Now this is mainly where the film loses points. The first half of this film is confusing at times and sometimes gets boring. It ranges from boring to okay. Now the second half of this film is very good. Its exciting, there are lots of nice twists and the film finally gets emotional in the second half. I'am not saying theres not emotion in the first half, there is but its very limited. The acting is one aspect in the movie which is very good through out. Matthew Lillard provides a great performance. His character is funny and you can't help but to feel sorry for him towards the end of the film. Josh Hartnett is quite good throughout the film but he especially shines in the second half. Diane Kruger doesn't really have too much of a role compared to Hartnett but she is very good in all of her scenes. Rose Byrne also shines in this film by giving a great performance. She probably has the deepest character as well. This film also has a nice soundtrack which only helps more to establish a great atomsphere. I'd say the best song is "Strange and Beautiful". "The Scientist" by Coldplay is nice as well but thats only if you like Coldplay. When I started watching this film, I didn't think I was going to like it but as the film went on, it got better and better. So overall, if you don't mind a very slow first half you will probably enjoy this film as the second half really impresses (and speeds up). Josh Hartnett fans will probably enjoy this film as well. If the first half of the film was more exciting or moved more quickly this film would have been an 8/10.Despite its flaws, I'd still recommend this film. I was kind of sleepy so I'll probably end up watching the film again and updating this review.

Rating- 7/10

the acting was great, I don't know where certain critic's are getting off saying otherwise. The story is very realistic and keeps you guessing. I never fell asleep during this one, and that's a change! I wish I head of rented this instead of I, Robot the other night:down: Josh Hartnett stole my heart in this one... and I'm a straight man!

:fresh: AWESOME!!!!!! One of the best movies I have seen in a long time. This movie was definitely not given enough credit. The acting was incedible, and what I loved most was that everything you saw was there for a reason, nothing was pointless. In most movies you see something happen, and wonder why that happened hoping you will find out in the end; but you never do. With Wicker Park the smallest details are something more about the story, something that you thought was irrelevant or not a big deal ended up being some of the main parts of the movie. I would definitely have to give Wicker Park a 10. I thought to myself does Wicker Park really deserve a 10? Is there anything that I would change in the movie? The answer to the second question is "no", the answer to the first is "YES"! So I strongly urge you to see this movie if you have not. I hope it blows you away, it definitely blew me away. I watched this movie with very high expectations, and Wicker Park surpassed these expectations by a large amount.
