Halloween was spent watching not the scariest movie of all time, but the funniest. Mel Brook's spoof on the famous monster is not only a great homage to the historic original film, but the most perfectly executed comedic take on a classic film and literacture character. Gene Wilder's performance as the great doctor Frankenstein (I mean Fronkensteen) is one for the ages, but for my money it's Marty Feldman as the lab assistant Igor that is the real laugh king here.

I did a blind buy on this earlier today knowing that my dad was a big fan of this movie back in the day. Hot damn, is it funny! Gene Wilder, as well as the rest of the cast are all hilarious. But my favorite part of the whole movie HAS to be Marty Feldman as Igor :fresh:

Igor: It's times like this that I remember what my old dad used to say.
Dr. Friedrich von Frankenstein: What was that?
Igor: "What the hell are you doing in the bathroom all day and night? Why don't you get out of there and give someone else a chance?"

Dr. Friedrich von Frankenstein: Igor, would you give me a hand with the bags?
Igor: Certainly, you take the blonde and I'll take the one in the turban.

Igor: Dr. Frankenstein...
Dr. Friedrich von Frankenstein: "Fronkensteen."
Igor: You're putting me on.
Dr. Friedrich von Frankenstein: No, it's pronounced "Fronkensteen."
Igor: Do you also say "Froaderick"?
Dr. Friedrich von Frankenstein: No... "Frederick."
Igor: Well, why isn't it "Froaderick Fronkensteen"?
Dr. Friedrich von Frankenstein: It isn't; it's "Frederick Fronensteen."
Igor: I see.
Dr. Friedrich von Frankenstein: You must be Igor.
Igor: No, it's pronounced "eye-gor."
Dr. Friedrich von Frankenstein: But they told me it was "ee-gor."

Igor: Ain't got no body, and nobody cares for me! Yakata cha!

Igor: Froedrick!

Well. New Year's Eve was pretty damn dull. Tried to get some alcohol from my sis, but she was leaving for a party at eight and we didn't have a way of picking it up till 10:30 which doesn't work out. So went over to Jonathan's at about 11. Then we went to Chuck and Angie's to watch a bunch of middle-aged white people get drunk and dance to bad music. We tried dragging Robert in to dance but he got so pissed off at us that he started hyperventilating and then left and walked around the neighborhood till we all left. After that tame party, it was about 2:30, so we went back to Jonathan's and watched Young Frankenstein which is still one of my favorite all-time movies.

Then I fell asleep and awoke the next day to do more of nothing. Watched a bit of Rat Race. Actually we watched all but the ending cause it sucks so much ass and Robert leaves to go to work. Then Andrew calls me and asks me what I did. I tell him and ask him what he did. He tells me about the great time he had at a party where he letter hooked up with two chicks. But he didn't brag about it, which is what I like best about Andrew. No matter how great a thing happens, he never gets to the point of bragging. He just informs you of it and that's that. Rest of the day I play Call of Duty which is without a doubt one of the best games ever made.

Mookie, Jonathan and I grab some grub at McDonalds at about nine. Then we go back to the apartment and start playing darts. Around 11:30 Jonathan's father person gets home and we all go to Wal-Mart, which was fun as hell. At one point, his dad looks out of the corner of his eye and sees who he thinks is Jonathan. So he lifts his leg flaps his cheeks, if you catch my drift. Then we turn to see it's not Jonathan, but some red-headed woman who is totally disgusted. We laughed so hard as we ran away from her.

We leave Wal-Mart and run by Taco Bell and grab a bunch of tacos. On the way back, we pull up beside this ugly chick at a stop light. I look at her once and she takes it to mean I'm flirting with her, and she keeps playing around, speeding up and slowing down and smiling. When it came time to part ways, I stuck my head out the window and yelled something dumb at her, I don't remember what and gave her a thumbs up. So cool.

Then we get back to apartment and watch TV and finish our game of Cricket. I kick Jonathan's ass 222 to 0. Then I eventually leave and come home to let my cat walk around me and lick my hand for about twenty minutes. Now I sit here, bored as hell, listening to The Chemistry Set. Great band. Well, that's about it.

Still one of my favorite movies of all time. Just a riot. The character of Igor makes me laugh through the whole movie...it's really sad that Marty Feldman died.
Just a fun movie that anyone can enjoy.

Funny. this is really funny i can't believe i hadn't seen it already. i'm putting this on my fav list. great film 10 on 10.

When I watched The Fisher King last night, Jabberwocky and it were the only two Gilliam films I had not seen. The fact is The Fisher King is definitely Gilliam's most underrated film. It was fantastic film and it quite possibly is my favorite Gilliam movie.

The Fisher King is the story of a Howard Stern-esqe radio personality, Jack Lucas, (Jeff Bridges) and his downfall after his comments on the radio inspired a listener to massacre an up scale bar. At the lowest point of his life Jack meets a very unique bum (Robin Williams) that changes his life forever.

Jeff Bridges, Robin Williams, Mercedes Ruehl and Amanda Plummer all turn great performances. Each character is extremely unique and each character has their own set of problems. When the characters get mixed all together it makes for a great movie.

The Fisher King is a grand showcase for all of Gilliam's films. Not only are there references to his previous films but, you can also see the influences The Fisher King had on his films to come. There are references to Holy Grail, Brazil (A poster on the wall), and Time Bandits (God's little people). As for the influences, the drunken scene resembles the drug scenes in Fear in Loathing in Las Vegas and the scenes in the mental hospital resemble the same scenes in 12 Monkeys.

Overall, The Fisher King is wonderful mismash of adventure, comedy and romance, that makes for a truely great and unique movie experience that only Gilliam could present.

Hilarious as ever...better and better with repeat viewings. Every performance here is classic. Loses some of its steam in the latter 1/3 or so, but still all around great.

Mel Brooks has made a masterpiece! I laughed my head off at this movie, because of the comedic talents of Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, and Cloris Leachman. Besides Spaceballs, I don't think there are any movies made by Mel Brooks that are better than this; it's funny as Hell! There is such a talented cast including Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, Cloris Leachman, Terri Garr, Madeline Kahn, and Peter Boyle. There are so many funny spoofs of Frankenstein movies, including Frankenstein and The Bride of Frankenstein. Mel Brooks also made this movie black-and-white to make fun of all the old Frankenstein movies.

Young Frankenstein is considered a classic by some, so I expected alot. But it wasn't as funny as I had hoped. However the signing number with Frankenstein is priceless and some of I gor's lines are good too.
